Yes. Google agreed to buy Wiz for $32 billion in cash on March 18, 2025, subject to closing adjustments, and completed the acquisition on March 11, 2026. Alphabet’s first-quarter 2026 filing reports a completed purchase price of approximately $29.5 billion after purchase-price adjustments, so the two figures describe different stages of the same transaction.
Did Google really buy Wiz?
Google completed its acquisition of cloud-security company Wiz on March 11, 2026. Wiz joined Google Cloud, retained its brand and continues to serve customers operating across major cloud platforms.
The original announcement, dated March 18, 2025, described an all-cash transaction valued at $32 billion. That amount was explicitly subject to closing adjustments. The completion announcement confirms that the deal has now closed.

Why is the completed price listed as $29.5 billion?
The $32 billion figure was the announced headline value. Alphabet’s first-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q reports the accounting value of the completed purchase after purchase-price adjustments at approximately $29.5 billion. Its preliminary purchase-price allocation totals $29.467 billion, excluding post-combination compensation arrangements.

| Figure | What it represents | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| $32 billion | Announced all-cash deal value, subject to closing adjustments | Google’s March 18, 2025 agreement announcement |
| $29.467 billion | Preliminary total purchase price in Alphabet’s accounting allocation | Alphabet’s first-quarter 2026 filing |
| Approximately $29.5 billion | Rounded completed purchase price after purchase-price adjustments; excludes post-combination compensation arrangements | Alphabet’s first-quarter 2026 filing |
These numbers are not contradictory. One is the negotiated announcement value before closing adjustments; the other is the accounting amount recorded after the transaction closed.

What happens to Wiz after joining Google Cloud?
Wiz keeps its brand
Google’s completion announcement says Wiz retains its brand while operating within Google Cloud. The announcement does not describe a replacement of the Wiz product identity.
Multicloud support remains part of the offering
Google and Wiz said the products would continue to support customers across Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud. Wiz’s stated role is therefore not limited to Google Cloud environments.

Partner delivery continues
The transaction materials say Wiz will continue to be offered through partner security solutions. Specific partner terms, packaging and product road maps were not detailed in the transaction announcements.
Why did Google acquire Wiz?
Stronger cloud and AI security
Google described the combination as an investment in cloud security and protection against AI-related threats. The stated goal is to help organizations design and operate security controls across increasingly complex cloud and AI environments.

- HARDWARE PLUS SECURITY SERVICES: FortiGate-60F Firewall Appliance bundled with 1 year of FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection.
- UNIFIED THREAT PROTECTION (UTP): Secures against advanced online threats with comprehensive web filtering and anti-botnet technologies.
- OPTIMIZED FOR MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES: Tailored for businesses needing robust security without the infrastructure of larger enterprises.
- RELIABLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT: FortiCare Premium ensures high-quality support and service continuity.
- EFFECTIVE PROTECTION: Employs advanced filtering technologies to safeguard against sophisticated threats.
More automation and simpler operations
The companies said the combination should improve security automation, help cybersecurity teams scale and reduce the cost of implementing and managing controls. Those are strategic objectives; the acquisition announcements do not quantify savings or publish a new product performance benchmark.
Support for multicloud adoption
Customers often run workloads in more than one public cloud. Google positioned Wiz’s cross-cloud coverage as a way to make security consistent while organizations use AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud and Google Cloud together.

Cloud coverage is still a central question
Wiz’s continued support for AWS, Azure and Oracle Cloud means buyers should evaluate coverage across every environment they operate, rather than assuming that Google ownership makes the platform Google-cloud-only.
Security lifecycle scope matters
The rationale for the acquisition spans security design, operation and automation. When comparing cloud-security platforms, assess how each one handles the full lifecycle: finding risks, prioritizing them, helping teams remediate issues and monitoring controls after deployment.
Automation and AI capabilities deserve scrutiny
Google and Wiz specifically cited automation and AI-related threats. Buyers should ask which workflows are automated today, what approval controls exist, how findings are explained and how AI-generated recommendations are validated. The deal announcement alone does not establish feature availability or performance for any future combined product.

Integration and operating cost remain practical differentiators
The stated ambition is to lower the cost of implementing and managing security controls and to make cybersecurity more accessible. In practice, organizations still need to compare integrations, deployment effort, staffing requirements, data handling and the total cost of operating controls in their own environments.

Bottom line
Google did buy Wiz, but the transaction has two legitimate headline figures. The announced March 2025 deal was a $32 billion all-cash agreement subject to closing adjustments; the deal that closed on March 11, 2026 was recorded by Alphabet at approximately $29.5 billion after those adjustments. Wiz is now part of Google Cloud, keeps its brand and remains a multicloud security platform serving AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud and other major environments.
