“Nest Locator Tag” was not a confirmed Google product launch. In April 2023, Android Authority reported that an unreleased icon with that label had appeared in Google Fonts, suggesting a possible Google item tracker—but the image could have been a placeholder. Google later introduced a tracker called Pixel Tag, according to 2026 reporting; no cited source confirms that Pixel Tag is the same product as the 2023 sighting.
What appeared in Google Fonts
On April 29, 2023, Android Authority reported that an unreleased icon labeled “Nest Locator Tag” had appeared in Google Fonts. The report treated it as a possible clue to a Google tracker and raised the possibility of Nest branding. It also noted that the image might simply be a placeholder.
That makes the sighting evidence of a reported name and asset—not an announcement, specification, or confirmation that Google had built or planned to ship hardware under that name. No Google statement confirming “Nest Locator Tag” is established by the cited reporting.
Is Nest Locator Tag the same as Google Pixel Tag?
That connection is unconfirmed. On August 12, 2026, TechCrunch reported that Google introduced a tracker called Pixel Tag at its Made by Google event. The report described Find Hub integration, Bluetooth, and Ultra Wideband support. It does not establish that Pixel Tag was the device represented by the 2023 Nest Locator Tag icon.

What was reported about Pixel Tag

- Tracking ecosystem: Pixel Tag was reported to use Google Find Hub; Apple AirTag uses Apple’s Find My ecosystem.
- Nearby finding: the Pixel Tag report lists Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband support. The cited material does not provide an independent range or accuracy comparison.
- Attachment: MacRumors reported that Pixel Tag lacks a built-in attachment point and requires an add-on accessory for use on keys or bags. Check accessory compatibility before buying.
- Safety: Android’s unknown tracker alerts cover supported tracker categories, including Apple AirTags, as described in Google’s support guidance below.
The available reporting does not establish which tracker has better range, accuracy, battery life, or reliability, and it does not provide hands-on test results.

What to do if Android alerts you to an unknown tracker
Google’s Android Help page on unknown tracker alerts says alerts currently work with Find Hub network-compatible tags, headphones, and Apple AirTags. The instructions describe opening an alert map, playing a sound, locating the tracker, and following device-specific guidance. Use the live help page for the current steps and eligibility information.
- Open the unknown tracker alert and review its map to understand where the device was detected moving with you.
- Use the alert’s option to play a sound if available, then try to locate the tracker.
- Follow the on-screen, device-specific instructions to identify or disable it, and contact local authorities if you believe you are in danger.
Google cautions that turning off Bluetooth or location services, or enabling airplane mode, does not by itself stop the tracker’s owner from finding the tracker. Google’s 2023 explainer described the feature beginning to roll out to Android 6.0 and later, but current eligibility and instructions should be checked in Android Help.
