Google’s Jupiter “Dawn to Dusk” collection gives Chromebook Plus users four wallpapers showing Jupiter’s auroras at sunrise, daytime, sunset, and night, plus a matching animated screensaver. The wallpaper shifts to reflect local time on Earth, and the feature is a built-in ChromeOS option rather than a separate paid download.
What is the Jupiter “Dawn to Dusk” Chromebook wallpaper?
It is a set of four Jupiter images paired with an animated screensaver. The wallpaper scenes show the planet’s auroras at different times of day, with lighting that changes from sunrise through night. Google describes the collection as a Chromebook Plus feature.
Google announced it on August 7, 2025, saying it was first available exclusively on the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14. That describes the launch, not a continuing requirement to own that model: Google’s current help page describes the paired “Dawn to Dark” wallpaper and screensaver behavior for Chromebook Plus. The announcement does not establish availability on every Chromebook model.
Does the wallpaper change throughout the day?
Yes. The collection cycles among sunrise, daytime, sunset, and nighttime views to match the viewer’s local time on Earth. The scenes vary in lighting and in how the planet and aurora are presented; Google does not describe them as performance modes or rank one as better than another.

How to enable the wallpaper and screensaver
- Right-click an empty area of the Chromebook desktop.
- Select Set wallpaper & style, then choose Wallpaper.
- Choose an image from the collection.
- To enable the paired screensaver, return to Set wallpaper & style, open Screen saver, and turn it on.
Google’s general screensaver setting runs only while the Chromebook is charging. For the current instructions and account restrictions, see Google’s Chromebook wallpaper and screen saver help page.
Why the Jupiter artwork looks different from a normal space photo
Jupiter’s polar auroras emit ultraviolet and X-ray light and cannot be seen by the human eye. Google says Hubble’s ultraviolet-observing capabilities captured the intense blue auroras represented in the collection. The artwork combines NASA photos with 3D renderings rather than presenting the aurora as an ordinary visible-light snapshot.

Google’s ChromeOS wallpaper team consulted NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio about details including aurora movement, Jupiter’s south pole, the sun, and surrounding stars. The designers selected the south pole partly to include the Great Red Spot and considered how the sun and stars should appear at different angles. Hannah Lee, a visual designer on the ChromeOS wallpapers and screensavers team, said: “We used this information and these assets to try to create the most scientifically accurate rendering possible, even working with NASA to consider the placement of the sun and specific stars seen around Jupiter at different angles.”

Google also highlighted how the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14’s OLED display presents the imagery. Visual design lead Elizabeth Chiu said: “OLED has excellent performance with high contrast, dark blacks and bright colors.” That is a comment about the launch device’s display, not a requirement for using the collection.

Why the screensaver option may be unavailable
- Work or school management: An administrator may restrict wallpaper changes on a managed Chromebook.
- Work or school account: Google says school and work accounts cannot access the screensaver option.
- Not charging: The Chromebook’s screensaver runs only while the device is charging.
These restrictions are described in Google’s Chromebook Help instructions. If the device is managed by an organization, its administrator controls whether wallpaper settings can be changed.
