Google’s Advanced Flow does not eliminate Android’s warning about unverified developers. It gives users a way to opt into installing their apps after a one-time 24-hour security delay. Once enabled, the choice can last seven days or indefinitely, but installation prompts still flag apps from unverified developers.
What Android’s Advanced Flow changes—and what it does not
Google’s developer-verification policy is intended to require apps to be registered by verified developers before they can be installed on certified Android devices. Google describes the Advanced Flow as an opt-in route for users who want to install apps from unverified developers. That is Google’s stated safety rationale; it does not independently establish that verification makes an app safe. Google’s Android Help page on developer verification explains the policy and the user-side option.
“Unverified developer” describes a registration status. It is not, by itself, proof that an app is malicious. Conversely, allowing an app through the Advanced Flow does not verify the app, certify it as safe, or turn off every warning. The system continues to warn when you try to install an app from an unverified developer. Google’s March 2026 Android Developers Blog post characterizes the feature as preserving sideloading for users who choose it.
How the 24-hour delay works
The delay is part of the initial setup, not a new 24-hour wait before each installation. Google’s instructions describe starting the flow, waiting 24 hours, then returning to complete the choice. Afterward, you can keep the Advanced Flow enabled for seven days or indefinitely. Google’s step-by-step instructions describe the prompts and available durations.

Do not assume the setting is already available or uses identical labels on every phone. Google’s published instructions note that paths and labels may vary by device, and its pages do not provide a complete model-by-model availability schedule. Check the settings on your own device and consult current Google or manufacturer instructions if the path differs.

Choose whether to keep the setting on for seven days or indefinitely. Assess the particular app and developer before installing; enabling the flow only removes the system block for this category of app.
How to assess a request to install an app
Do not enable the flow because a caller, text message, pop-up, or remote helper pressures you to do so. Google warns that scammers may pose as bank fraud agents, technical-support staff, or delivery services to persuade people to install inauthentic apps.

Consider whether you expected the app and can confirm its developer through a source you trust. The system’s warning is a reason to pause, not evidence on its own that the app is malicious.

Where Google says developer-verification protections begin
Google’s stated initial rollout begins in September 2026 for apps from participating stores on certified Android devices running Android 7 or later in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. The named stores are Google Play, HONOR App Market, OPPO App Market, Galaxy Store, Palm Store, V-Appstore, and GetApps. Google’s Android Developers page gives that initial scope. It should not be read as a universal rollout date or as confirmation that every device or region has the same availability.
