Google Wallet launched in Pakistan on March 11, 2025, and Google lists the app, tap to pay and Wallet website as available there. But availability is not universal: the bank decides which of its cards can be added, and support for transit, identity and other passes depends on local partners. The practical picture is therefore payment-led, with important limits for particular cards, devices and non-payment features.
What Google Wallet availability in Pakistan actually means
Google for Developers announced the Pakistan launch in its April 15, 2025 release notes, saying users could add cards and passes and pay with the GPay checkout button across Android, Wear and Fitbit devices. Google’s Pakistan pages mark the app, tap to pay and Wallet website as available. These are different capabilities: having access to the app does not guarantee that a particular card or pass will work.
Google Wallet can be used for contactless payments at stores that accept contactless payments, as well as supported online checkout. The merchant’s payment terminal or checkout must accept the relevant payment method; Wallet availability by itself does not make every merchant compatible.

Which Pakistani banks and card types does Google list?
Google’s Pakistan payment-methods page lists these issuer and card-network combinations. It is a list of supported types, not a promise that every card issued by a listed bank is eligible.

The launch came in stages across payment networks: Visa announced Pakistani card provisioning on March 13, 2025, and Mastercard announced it on March 18, 2025. HBL, Meezan Bank and Bank Alfalah also made separate issuer announcements. Those announcements provide launch context; Google’s issuer-and-card-type listing is the more useful reference when checking a specific card.
What you need for phone tap to pay
For contactless payments with a phone, Google requires an Android phone with Near Field Communication (NFC). A phone without NFC cannot make Wallet tap-to-pay transactions, even if the app is available. Before relying on a device, confirm that it has NFC and meets Google’s Android and device-security requirements. Wear OS and Fitbit tap to pay are also listed for Pakistan, but depend on the device and supported payment methods.

Why a card may not add
Google’s guidance is explicit: “Your bank decides if its cards work with Google Wallet.” A bank’s presence in the table does not establish support for every card variant, account, region or card status. If your card is declined during setup, first compare its exact network and credit, debit or prepaid type with the listing. If that combination appears, contact the issuer to confirm that the individual card is eligible and complete any verification it requires. Google Wallet availability cannot override an issuer’s decision.

Google Wallet can hold several kinds of items in supported markets, including tickets, transit passes, retail cards, access cards, licenses or IDs, and health cards. Google cautions that availability can depend on country, device and participating partners. The Pakistan pages do not name a local transit network, national-ID provider, driver’s-license partner or health-card partner, so those categories should be treated as unconfirmed for Pakistan rather than assumed to work.
Boarding passes are part of the documented launch picture: Visa’s March 13, 2025 announcement described access to boarding passes when travelling. This does not establish support for every airline or pass; availability depends on the relevant provider.

- Check the phone’s specifications for NFC, or verify that your intended Wear OS or Fitbit device supports tap to pay.
- Match the issuing bank, network and card type against Google’s Pakistan payment-methods listing.
- Add the card in Wallet and follow the issuer’s verification process. If it fails despite matching the listed type, ask the bank about that specific card.
- Try a payment at a contactless terminal before relying on Wallet for a purchase, and keep the physical card available while you confirm where it works.
- For a pass, check with the airline, transit operator or other provider that issues it; do not infer Pakistan support from Wallet’s general item categories.
Google and the payment-network announcements cited here establish launch and availability, but do not provide an authoritative Pakistan user-count or transaction-volume figure.
