Google announced Store Ratings for English-language shopping searches in Australia, Canada, India and the United Kingdom on October 9, 2024. The feature helps shoppers assess a merchant’s overall customer experience, but its appearance is conditional: Google does not promise a rating on every search, merchant listing or ad.
What Google Store Ratings are
Store Ratings are merchant-level signals about shoppers’ overall experience after a purchase has been fulfilled. A display may show a score out of five, a review count, a detail such as average delivery time when available, and a link to recent reviews. Google says ratings may appear on mobile and web across the Search Network and YouTube, in paid and unpaid formats. “May appear” matters: eligibility does not guarantee a display for a particular merchant, query or placement.
Google’s October 9, 2024 announcement covered English-language shopping searches in Australia, Canada, India and the UK. The feature had been available to US searchers. Search Engine Roundtable reported Google’s announcement on October 10, 2024, reproducing its wording: “Google’s Store Ratings have been helping US merchants highlight the high quality experiences other shoppers have had right from Search, and we’re now bringing store ratings to English-language shopping searches in Australia, Canada, India and the United Kingdom.” (Search Engine Roundtable, October 10, 2024.) This is a historical announcement, not evidence of a new rollout in 2026; Google’s live Merchant Center guidance now governs feature details and eligibility.

Store Ratings describe the business and its broader shopping experience. Product Ratings are tied to specific products. A merchant’s store score should not be read as a review of any one item.

Where ratings may appear—and the ad-specific conditions
Google’s Merchant Center overview says Store Ratings can appear in both paid and unpaid formats across the Search Network and YouTube, on mobile and web. The overview does not provide a guaranteed placement or a country-by-country display schedule.
Google separately documents criteria for Store Ratings on ads: the average composite rating must be at least 3.5 stars, and the visible ad URL domain must match the domain for which Google has ratings. These are ad criteria, not universal conditions for every unpaid appearance. Google reports that Store Ratings on Search Network text ads are associated with an average 2% improvement in click-through rate. That is Google’s reported average, not a promised or independently established result for an individual merchant. (Google Merchant Center Help: Store Ratings.)

How Google builds a Store Rating
Google says ratings draw on multiple sources, including Google Customer Reviews and third-party aggregators. Google applies internal weighting to source data, but its overview does not publish the weighting formula. Google also describes retailer shopping-experience evaluations conducted by Google and partners. The rating primarily reflects post-fulfillment experience.

Ratings are country-specific: reviews from customers in one country contribute to the business rating in that country. Google’s guidance says enough eligible, unique, post-fulfillment reviews must be available for a country-specific rating, but the needed number can vary by merchant. Its review-sufficiency guidance refers to a five-year review window; it does not establish one universal minimum count merchants can rely on in every market. How merchants can participate
Google identifies three routes for review information to contribute to Store Ratings. None guarantees that a rating will appear in a specific result.
Use Google Customer Reviews
Google Customer Reviews is a free program available through Merchant Center. It is one route for collecting customer feedback that Google may use for Store Ratings. Consult Google’s current Merchant Center instructions for enrollment and setup. (Google Merchant Center Help: Store Ratings data sources and eligibility.)
Work with a supported review partner
Google lists third-party review partners, including Trustpilot and Yotpo, among the services that can provide data. A merchant can contact a supported partner directly. Partner lists, geographic coverage and service capabilities can change, so check Google’s current list and confirm that a provider supports the countries where you collect reviews. The important practical distinction is not simply whether a provider gathers reviews: the feedback must be eligible and shared with Google in a way its program recognizes.
Be selected for an evaluation
Google or a partner may evaluate retailer shopping experiences. This is not a merchant-controlled enrollment route, so it should not be treated as a substitute for setting up an available review program or partner integration.

Choosing a participation route
| Route | Cost information in Google’s guidance | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Google Customer Reviews | Google describes the program as free. | Merchant Center setup, country coverage and whether the feedback is eligible for Store Ratings. |
| Supported review partner | Not stated in Google’s overview. | Whether the provider is currently supported, serves your markets, and shares eligible post-purchase reviews with Google. |
| Google or partner evaluation | Not stated in Google’s overview. | This is an evaluation route, not a participation method the merchant can directly initiate. |
Practical checks before relying on the feature
- Confirm that reviews reflect fulfilled orders and are unique; review volume alone does not establish eligibility.
- Check review coverage separately for each country. Feedback from one market does not simply carry over to another country’s business rating.
- For an ad, verify the 3.5-star composite threshold and matching visible URL domain against Google’s current requirements.
- Set expectations around visibility: ratings may display in paid or unpaid formats, but the documentation does not guarantee an appearance for every eligible merchant or search.
