First identify what is not fitting: the Google TV or Chromecast interface, one app or video, or an Android phone screen cast to the TV. If the picture is enlarged or its edges are cut off, check both the streaming device’s display settings and the TV’s picture-size controls. If the image has borders, looks low-detail, or is blank, use the separate checks below; those symptoms have different causes.
Identify what is wrong before changing settings
“Google screen” can refer to several different things. Where the problem appears and what the picture looks like help identify which device or setting to check.

How do I make Chromecast fit my TV screen?
Check the Google device’s display options
On supported Google TV, Chromecast with Google TV, and Google TV Streamer devices, open Settings > Display and sound. Available controls can include resolution and text scaling, but options vary by device and TV. Google’s display settings guidance also directs users to the TV manufacturer for brightness instructions.
Resolution and framing are not the same setting. Changing resolution may affect the signal’s output mode, but it is not a guaranteed fix for a picture that is cropped or zoomed. Text scaling changes the size of interface text, not the TV’s picture boundaries.

Check the TV’s picture-size setting
If the picture is enlarged or its edges are missing, use the TV remote to open the television’s picture or display settings and look for a picture-size, aspect-ratio, or screen-fit control. The label and menu path depend on the TV model; Google does not specify a universal path. Consult the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model rather than assuming one setting name applies to every television.
If the Google menus fit but only one app or video does not, the issue may be limited to that app or content rather than the device-wide display framing.

Why are the edges of my Google TV screen cut off?
Cut-off edges or a noticeably enlarged picture point to a framing problem. Check the TV’s picture-size controls as well as the Google device’s display options. The symptoms alone do not establish a specific cause, so avoid assuming that resolution, a particular TV feature, or the streaming device is responsible without checking the settings.

Use the TV and Google device controls that are available for your setup; their options vary by model.

If the screen is blank or shows an HDMI error
A missing picture or HDMI error is a connection problem, not evidence of a screen-size mismatch. Google’s HDMI troubleshooting steps include checking the connection, trying another HDMI input, and checking for updates to the device, app, and TV. Google also lists a compatible HDMI extension cable among possible steps for HDMI errors; that advice is not a remedy for cropping or incorrect image size.
If you are casting an Android phone screen
Phone screen casting has a separate network path from the Google TV display settings. Google recommends that the Android device and Cast receiver use the same Wi-Fi network and that access-point isolation be disabled. Some Android devices may not have enough power for an optimized Cast experience. See Google’s Cast screen troubleshooting guidance for those checks.

If only the video looks low-detail
Low detail is a playback-quality issue, not necessarily a screen-fit problem. Google says playback quality depends on the quality purchased, what the device supports, and network speed. Its Google TV playback guidance lists 2 Mbps for HD and 14 Mbps for 4K playback. Those are playback requirements, not controls for cropping, zoom, or unused space.
