Google dated Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 to October 9, 2026. The update is build CP41.260831.016, with the 2026-10-05 security patch and Google Play services version 26.28.33. It fixes an idle battery-drain issue involving Flip to Shh and a failure affecting HTTPS downloads started through DownloadManager. Google’s Android 17 QPR2 release notes list one device-specific issue: Pixel 11 Pro Fold users may need to set up Face Unlock again.

What Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 changes

Google’s release notes describe QPRs as quarterly platform releases delivered to AOSP and Pixel devices as part of Feature Drops. Beta 7 is a pre-release update, not a public stable release. Google warns that beta software may contain errors or defects that affect normal device operation. Google’s Android Beta for Pixel page explains the program and its risks.

  • Build: CP41.260831.016
  • Release date: October 9, 2026
  • Security patch level: 2026-10-05
  • Google Play services: 26.28.33

Fixes included

The release notes list a fix for excessive battery drain while the phone is idle when Flip to Shh prevents the device from entering deep sleep. They also list a fix for HTTPS downloads that fail immediately when started through the system DownloadManager. The notes do not quantify battery-life gains or state how common either problem was.

Known Face Unlock issue

Google lists a known issue for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold: Face Unlock may not work properly until the user enrolls their face again. The notice is specific to that model; it does not identify the same issue across all Pixel devices.

How to get Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7

For a supported physical Pixel, enrollment in Android Beta for Pixel is the consumer OTA route. Existing Android 17 beta participants who have not opted out are set to receive QPR2 Beta 7 and subsequent beta updates automatically, according to the program announcement. New participants can enroll an eligible device through Google’s program and then receive the latest beta over the air.

  1. Back up your Pixel. Google recommends making a backup before enrollment.
  2. Check eligibility and enroll. Open Android Beta for Pixel while signed into the Google account used on the device, then follow the enrollment instructions for the eligible Pixel.
  3. Install the offered OTA update. After enrollment, check for the system update on the device and install the beta when it is offered.

Google says most users do not need a full reset to move onto QPR2 Beta. The OTA is a beta build, however, so it is sensible to avoid installing it on a device you depend on if unexpected software problems would be disruptive.

How to opt out and return to a public Android release

Leaving the beta program can erase local data. Google says that opting out and installing the public stable rollback wipes the device. There is a limited opportunity to opt out without a wipe after the stable release for the version being tested is available and before accepting another beta update. The timing matters: if you opt out at the wrong point or install the rollback, local data can be lost.

  1. Back up data you need to keep before changing your program status.
  2. Use the Android Beta for Pixel program page to opt out when you are ready to leave.
  3. Read the offered update notice carefully. Installing the public stable rollback can wipe local device data.
  4. If you intend to leave without a wipe, act during Google’s limited stable-release window and do not take another beta update first. Check Google’s current instructions for the release and device before proceeding.

Call-forwarding USSD requests

Standard apps with only the CALL_PHONE permission are blocked from executing call-forwarding codes through TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest(). When users manually dial those codes, Android displays a confirmation dialog. Google says other USSD requests, including mobile-money transfers and account checks, are unaffected.

More efficient self-broadcast delivery

Apps should not depend on same-process broadcasts as background timers or keep-alive mechanisms. Google recommends WorkManager for scheduled work, AlarmManager when work must occur at a specific time, and direct in-process communication such as callbacks or Kotlin flows for communication within the process. Consult the release notes for the detailed behavior and migration context.
