Neither phone wins on the published specifications alone. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the better fit if you want Google’s foldable software features and a telephoto-led camera story. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the better fit if you want the more camera-heavy rear array, the larger published battery capacity and faster wired charging. Battery life, performance, camera quality, durability and value still need matched independent tests and local prices before you can call a winner.

Where both phones stand right now

Both are current, officially launched book-style foldables. Google says the Pixel 11 Pro Fold was open for pre-order before its August 20 shelf date, as described in its Pixel 11 Pro Fold announcement. Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra became available from August 7 through carriers, retailers, Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores in 106 markets, according to its launch notice. Both launch dates are in the past as of this writing, so the question is less about pre-orders and more about which model is the right buy in your market today.

Availability is the first thing that can change the answer. Carrier, retailer and regional configurations can alter what you actually pay and which storage tier or bundle you can get, so treat the manufacturer pages as the baseline and check your local store before deciding.

Displays: similar sizes, non-matching brightness claims

Both phones use an 8-inch inner screen and a 6.5-inch outer screen. The shared diagonal sizes make the two foldables look alike on paper, but aspect ratio, crease appearance and how each screen handles glare are separate questions that the spec sheets do not answer.

The brightness figures are also not directly comparable. Google’s 3,600-nit peak values are stated for both screens. Samsung’s announcement describes 3,000-nit brightness for the main screen. Those numbers come from different manufacturers and do not state the same measurement conditions, so they cannot be read as a ranking. If display brightness matters to you, compare the two phones side by side in the same room, outdoors and in reviews that measure both under matched conditions.

Cameras: more modules on one side, a telephoto-led story on the other

The camera specifications point in different directions. Samsung’s published rear array is the more elaborate one: a 200 MP wide camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide and a 10 MP telephoto module with 3x optical zoom. Google’s announcement highlights a 48 MP main camera and a telephoto camera that it markets with up to 30x Super Zoom.

Two things follow from that. A higher main-sensor resolution and more rear modules are real hardware differences, but they do not establish that the photographs will look better. Google’s 30x figure and Samsung’s 3x optical telephoto are also different kinds of claim: one is a zoom range that includes digital processing, the other is an optical specification. If you shoot a lot at long distance, check sample photos at the zoom levels you actually use. If you mainly take wide shots and want an ultra-wide option, Samsung’s published array gives you a clearer answer on paper.

Battery life and charging

Google claims more than 24 hours of battery life for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, as stated in its announcement. That is a manufacturer’s duration claim under conditions Google sets, not a measured result. Samsung instead publishes a 5,000 mAh capacity for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Capacity and a duration claim measure different things, so neither figure settles real-world endurance.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold - Unlocked Smartphone with Gemini - Jade - 512 GB
  • Unfold extraordinary with Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold; with Pixel’s largest screen and Gemini, Google’s most advanced AI, it’s made for multitasking and entertainment[1]
  • Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
  • Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[14]
  • The gearless, high-strength hinge makes it durable enough to handle about 10 years of folding[3]; plus, Pixel 10 Pro Fold is built with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance[4]
  • The brighter-than-ever 8-inch Super Actua Flex display is Pixel’s largest screen yet[12]; and you can use Split Screen to plan a trip, drag and drop images, and open multiple apps at once[5]

Charging is easier to compare. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold uses 30 W wired charging, which Google says reaches about 50% in 30 minutes, and up to 25 W wireless charging under the Qi2.2 standard. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is listed at 45 W wired charging. On paper Samsung’s wired rate is faster, but the time to reach a given percentage depends on the charger you use and on the battery’s state, so verify with the charger you own. The sources reviewed did not state Samsung’s wireless charging rate.

Durability and folding screens

Both manufacturers make durability claims, and the claims rest on different foundations. Google lists IP68 dust and water protection and says the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is three times more durable than last year’s device, citing its gearless hinge and display construction. The “three times” comparison is against Google’s own previous model, not against the Galaxy. Samsung describes its Flex Titanium display structure as supporting the screen and reducing crease visibility. No independent head-to-head durability test was established for either phone, so neither company’s claim can be used as a neutral ranking.

In practice, check three things before buying: the official water and dust rating for the exact model, the warranty terms in your country, and whether the seller offers a protection plan. Samsung Australia lists Samsung Care+ as covering cracked screens and water damage in that market; availability and terms for Care+ or any similar plan in other regions should be confirmed locally.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold - Unlocked Smartphone with Gemini Moonstone 256GB

Software, multitasking and ecosystem

Google’s feature list for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold includes split screen, drag and drop, app bubbles, sign-to-text for American Sign Language and Gemini features. Samsung presents an 8-inch workspace, multitasking tools and Galaxy AI features, including Now Nudge and content summarization. Both lists are vendor descriptions. Whether either system feels easier to use depends on the apps you run, the accounts you already use and how you move files between phones, laptops and tablets.

If you already live in Google’s services, the Pixel’s software integration is the main reason to consider it. If your work involves Samsung’s ecosystem, such as a Galaxy watch or tablet, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra fits that setup more naturally. Neither claim tells you how the phone will feel after a week of use.

Size and weight

Samsung specifies 215 g and 4.1 mm unfolded thickness for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, excluding the main-screen frame. Google describes the Pixel 11 Pro Fold as almost 10% lighter and about 1 mm thinner than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, but it does not state exact body dimensions or a comparable weight in the sources reviewed. Because the two companies measure differently, do not treat a weight or thickness difference as settled until you compare measured figures from the same review source.

Price and value

A current comparable local price for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold was not established, so the value comparison has to be done in your own market. For the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Samsung Australia lists buying options and trade-in offers for that region. Prices, promotions, storage tiers and trade-in values change over time and vary by country and carrier. On the day you buy, compare the total price including storage, plan terms and any protection cost.

Which one should you buy?

Choose by the priority that matters most to you.

  • Telephoto and zoom shooting: Google’s 30x Super Zoom claim is the headline, but the Galaxy’s 10 MP 3x optical telephoto is the more specific hardware figure. Compare sample images at your typical zoom distances before deciding.
  • Wide and ultra-wide shooting: The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has a published 200 MP wide sensor and a 50 MP ultra-wide module, which the Pixel’s announcement does not list.
  • Google account and Pixel software: The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the natural choice if you rely on Google’s features, Gemini and Pixel-specific tools.
  • Samsung ecosystem and Galaxy AI: The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra suits users who already use Samsung devices or want Galaxy AI workflows.
  • Battery and wired charging: Samsung’s 5,000 mAh capacity and 45 W wired charging are the more concrete published numbers, but actual endurance needs matched battery tests.
  • Lowest total cost: Compare local prices, storage tiers and trade-in offers on the same day. The two phones cannot be ranked on cost from the figures available here.

Before you buy: a short checklist

  • Confirm the exact model, storage and carrier in your country on the manufacturer’s site or your retailer’s listing.
  • Look for independent battery, performance, camera and durability tests that measure both phones under matched conditions.
  • Check the official water and dust rating, warranty and protection-plan terms for your region.
  • Test the folding screen and hinge in a store if possible, since crease visibility and handling are matters of personal preference.
  • Confirm the trade-in value and any promotional terms before you commit.

Spec sheets narrow the choice, but they do not decide it. Start with the priority that matters most to you, check the matched tests, and then compare local prices. For many buyers, that approach will settle the question faster than any side-by-side table.
