Will Pokémon GO work on the Pixel 11 Pro Fold or a Galaxy Z Fold? Both current phones have Android versions and hardware that exceed Niantic’s published baseline, but Niantic does not specifically certify either model and warns that meeting its requirements cannot guarantee play. There is also no comparable Pokémon GO test establishing which one runs cooler, lasts longer, or feels more responsive.
For a current-generation comparison, “Galaxy Z Fold” means the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra here—not the separate Z Fold8 or an older model. Choose between these two based on the screen you prefer, your regional model and app availability, and local price and return terms; the published specifications alone do not establish a gameplay winner.
Will Pokémon GO work on both phones?
Niantic’s Supported Devices page lists Android 9 or later, 2 GB or more of RAM, GPS and Location Services, a strong internet connection, and a preferred resolution of 720 × 1280. It also says rooted devices are unsupported. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is a 2026 model, and Samsung lists Android 17 for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, so their published platform and hardware specifications are above that general baseline.

Niantic states: “We cannot guarantee device support: With many device models and configurations available in different regions, we cannot guarantee that every device that meets the criteria will be able to play the game.” Its requirements page does not name either foldable. Older or lower-end phones may also fail to render the map horizon fully.

How do the screens and platforms compare?
| Specification | Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra |
|---|---|---|
| Cover display | 6.5-inch OLED; 1080 × 2342; up to 120 Hz | 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X; 1080 × 2520; adaptive 1–120 Hz |
| Inner display | Foldable internal display; see Google’s specifications page for details | 8.0-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X; 2504 × 2256; adaptive 1–120 Hz |
| Platform | Tensor G6 | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy; Android 17 |
The cover screens share a 6.5-inch diagonal, but their resolutions and aspect ratios differ. Samsung’s listed inner display is larger, which may matter if you want a broad screen while playing. These specifications do not show how Pokémon GO lays out or renders on either unfolded display, or which screen is easier to use for catching, navigating menus, or walking.

Which foldable is better for Pokémon GO?
The available specifications do not support a reliable gameplay winner. Chip names, refresh rates, and screen size are not substitutes for a direct comparison of in-game responsiveness, heat, or battery use. No controlled test of Pokémon GO on these exact phones establishes those results.

For a meaningful comparison, a model-specific test would need to hold the route, brightness, network conditions, app version, session duration, and screen choice constant, then record responsiveness, temperature, and battery change. Until such evidence is available, weigh these practical factors instead:
- Screen you expect to use: Decide whether you would mainly play on the cover display or unfold the phone; the sources establish display specifications, not which layout works better in the game.
- Exact regional model and service: Confirm the local configuration, Pokémon GO availability through your app store, and network support.
- Cost and recourse: Compare current local prices, warranty coverage, and return terms rather than assuming launch information represents today’s offer.
Can Pokémon GO Plus connect to either phone?
Pokémon GO Plus is an optional accessory, not a phone-performance upgrade. Pokémon Support’s FAQ says Pokémon GO must still be installed on the smartphone and one Plus can connect to only one smartphone at a time. The FAQ lists Android 6 or later for its accessory play requirements, recommends at least 2 GB of RAM, and says beta operating systems are not guaranteed. That accessory-specific threshold differs from Niantic’s general supported-device page, which lists Android 9 or later.
