The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is a polished but incremental update, according to Ted Kritsonis’s September 10, 2026 review for PetaPixel. Its larger main camera sensor, seven Camera Looks styles, built-in Qi2 magnetic charging and IP68 protection are meaningful additions, but the telephoto and ultrawide cameras remain unchanged and some foldable-specific camera controls still feel awkward. PetaPixel scored it 7.5/10 and reported a $1,899 starting price; that price is a review figure, not a verified current offer.

What’s new, and what carries over?

The biggest imaging change is the main camera: the review reports a 48-megapixel sensor that is larger than the previous model’s, while the 10.8-megapixel 5× telephoto and 10.5-megapixel ultrawide are described as unchanged. Google’s Camera Looks styles offer a more visible creative change, and built-in Qi2 magnetic coils—branded Pixelsnap—add magnetic accessory compatibility without relying on a case for that feature.

Much else feels familiar. The reviewer describes the design, general form and everyday software experience as close to the previous Fold, with only slight differences in thickness and weight. The reported displays are an 8-inch inner OLED and a 6.5-inch cover OLED.

How much better are the cameras?

The larger main sensor helps, but does not transform the system

Kritsonis says the larger main sensor can improve color accuracy, dynamic range and low-light capture. He does not describe the result as a major overall leap. In more demanding conditions, particularly in dim light or with moving subjects, he found the smaller telephoto and ultrawide cameras less capable.

Camera Looks add character, with limited customization

The camera app adds seven styles: the default look, Editorial, Velvet, Classic, Digi, Black Tie and Minimal. Processing choices are listed as Original, Natural, Shadows and Vanilla. The reviewer considers these styles the most visually striking camera change, though he says their adjustment sliders can feel restrained and that users cannot save custom presets.

Magic Capture is an interesting but inconsistent tool

Magic Capture uses AI to select still frames from a short video clip. The review says it can be used with 50-megapixel JPEG or RAW still capture, but selected frames top out at 10.8 megapixels. It does not work with the ultrawide camera and ignores manual exposure adjustments. Kritsonis found its results inconsistent, especially when subjects were moving.

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold - Unlocked Smartphone, Gemini - 512 GB - Obsidian

Partly folded framing remains awkward

When the phone is unfolded and tilted with the camera open, the live preview stays on the upper half of the inner display; the reviewer says it cannot be moved to the lower half. Split-screen can work around the issue, but he does not consider it an ideal solution. This matters if you expect to use the folded phone as a hands-free camera for low-angle framing.

Is it useful for video and everyday software?

The review reports rear-camera 4K recording at 24, 30 or 60 frames per second, with improvements in low-light quality and stabilization. It also notes the absence of Log recording, manual video control and 4K at 120 frames per second. Creator mode adds a social-media grid, speech enhancement and a teleprompter that can use both screens.

Gemini and stock Android are part of the phone’s appeal in the review, but the reviewer says day-to-day software remains similar to the preceding Fold. He also reports a seven-year Android and security update commitment. That commitment is presented as a claim from the review, not independently confirmed here against current Google support information.

How do durability and Pixelsnap fit in?

The review identifies IP68 dust and water resistance as a durability advantage over the North American competitors it discusses. It also notes that some overseas rivals have similarly high ratings in thinner, lighter bodies. Those are the reviewer’s comparisons, not the result of independent comparative testing presented here.

Is the Pixel 11 Pro Fold worth upgrading to?

For a Pixel 10 Pro Fold owner, the decision comes down largely to whether the larger main sensor and Camera Looks are worth paying for when the design, everyday software and two secondary rear cameras have changed little. The review does not make an unqualified upgrade recommendation.

Someone coming from a much older Pixel may notice a more substantial overall change, but that is a broader comparison than the review’s direct generational assessment. PetaPixel’s reported $1,899 starting price is the figure in its September 2026 review; it should not be treated as a current retailer price.

Are there alternatives?

The PetaPixel article names the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Motorola Razr Fold (2026), Oppo Find N6 and Honor Magic V6 as alternatives. Availability and exact models can vary by market, and the review’s competitor judgments are its own rather than independent comparisons established here.

When comparing foldables, look beyond the headline camera count. Consider camera performance, the proportions of both screens, thickness and weight, battery, durability, price and software designed for a folding display. The Pixel review’s most concrete trade-off is between its improved main camera and features such as Pixelsnap and IP68 protection on one side, and its unchanged secondary cameras and incremental overall update on the other.
