Google’s first office in Pakistan was inaugurated in Islamabad on August 18, 2026. The opening was presented as a step toward deeper work on digital skills, local businesses and technology manufacturing—but those are stated aims, not proof of outcomes already delivered. And despite the suggestion in some coverage that TikTok will follow, no cited source confirms a TikTok office announcement.
What happened at Google’s Pakistan office opening?
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Google’s first Pakistan office in Islamabad on August 18, 2026, according to the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications. The Pakistan Digital Authority said the ceremony took place at the Prime Minister’s House and connected the opening to the Digital Nation Pakistan agenda. Google Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Wilson L. White led a nine-member delegation.
Government accounts framed the office as part of a broader digital transformation effort and a way to deepen cooperation on youth skills and helping Pakistani businesses reach global markets. Those are the purposes described for the office; the opening alone does not establish that it has created jobs, changed Google products or delivered those wider benefits.
What has Google said it will do in Pakistan?
Chromebook assembly and possible exports
The Ministry of IT says Google described an ongoing Chromebook assembly line established with local partners, with the possibility of regional exports. The account does not identify the manufacturing partner or a Chromebook model, nor does it give production capacity, a start date, export destinations or evidence of completed shipments. Regional exports should therefore be understood as a possibility, not a confirmed activity.

Career Certificates and skills development
Radio Pakistan reported that an August 21, 2026, memorandum of understanding between Google and the government covers digital skills, IT exports and innovation. It also reported a Google target of issuing 150,000 Career Certificates in Pakistan during 2026. That is an announced target, not a verified completion figure. The report does not establish whether applications are currently open or who is eligible.
The Ministry of IT also says Google expressed interest in expanding upskilling in IT, AI and gaming. That describes areas of interest, not a confirmed list of funded programs or currently available courses. Check a program’s official page for enrollment status, eligibility and local availability before relying on it.

What do the reported economic and jobs figures mean?
Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting reported Wilson White’s figures that Google supported more than Rs 3.9 trillion in economic activity for Pakistani businesses and households over ten years and supported more than 960,000 jobs. These are figures attributed to Google through a government ministry, not an independent audit. They describe claimed past impact and should not be treated as results caused by the new Islamabad office.

Is TikTok opening an office in Pakistan too?
No cited source confirms that TikTok has announced or opened a Pakistan office. The Ministry of IT’s latest-news index mentions a TikTok delegation briefing officials about initiatives in Pakistan and upcoming programs, but it does not say the company plans a local office. That government listing establishes engagement, not an equivalent commitment to Google’s office opening.

The opening does not by itself confirm hiring. The cited announcements do not provide vacancies, job titles, locations beyond the office’s presence in Pakistan, or application details. Anyone looking for work should rely on official Google career listings or a named program’s own enrollment information rather than infer jobs from the inauguration.
