Google Nest Wifi Pro is a tri-band mesh router with Wi-Fi 6E, Matter hub and Thread support, and two 1 Gbps Ethernet ports on each router. Its clearest drawback for existing Google mesh owners is compatibility: Nest Wifi Pro cannot join a mesh with older Google Wifi or Nest Wifi hardware. Whether it is worth buying depends on your Wi-Fi 6E devices, home layout, wired-speed needs, and smart-home plans; the available product specifications do not establish a tested value or performance verdict.
What does Nest Wifi Pro offer?
Google lists three wireless bands for Nest Wifi Pro: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz. The 6 GHz band is the Wi-Fi 6E feature, but it benefits only compatible client devices. Google’s speed comparison assumes a Wi-Fi 6 or later client that supports 160 MHz channels.
Google says Wi-Fi 6E can offer “up to 2x the speeds of Wi-Fi 6,” comparing it with a Wi-Fi 6 router that supports 80 MHz channels. That is a conditional vendor claim, not a promise of twice the speed in a home. Google notes that actual speeds depend on the internet provider, network conditions, connected device, local regulations, and environment. Each Nest Wifi Pro router has two Ethernet ports with documented wired speeds of 1 Gbps per port. This is relevant if you have multi-gigabit internet or need faster wired links between network devices: the stated port speed is a limit to consider, even if your internet plan or other equipment is faster. Google’s specifications do not establish real-world throughput for a particular home.

Can you add Nest Wifi Pro to Google Wifi or older Nest Wifi?
No. Google says Nest Wifi Pro cannot be combined in the same mesh with earlier Nest Wifi or Google Wifi routers and points. If you already own those devices, they cannot serve as nodes in a Nest Wifi Pro mesh. To expand a Pro mesh, add another Nest Wifi Pro router. Check Google’s mesh compatibility guidance before planning an upgrade.
This makes the upgrade path a practical buying consideration: moving to Pro means building a separate mesh rather than extending the one you already have with older Google hardware.

Will Wi-Fi 6E make a difference in your home?
Start with the devices you actually use. A phone or computer needs Wi-Fi 6E support to use the 6 GHz band; Google’s quoted comparison further assumes support for 160 MHz channels. Without suitable clients, the 6 GHz advantage described by Google does not apply to those devices.
Then consider your layout and how additional routers would connect. Coverage and performance depend on placement, construction, environment, and whether nodes use wireless or Ethernet backhaul. The product specifications cited here do not provide controlled coverage, latency, roaming, or throughput results for a particular floor plan, so they cannot predict how many routers your home needs or what speeds you will see.

For a grounded comparison with another mesh system, evaluate client compatibility, node placement and backhaul options, Ethernet port speed, and whether your existing equipment can be reused. No comparable controlled measurements are established here to support a claim that Nest Wifi Pro outperforms a particular alternative.
What smart-home features are included?
Google documents Matter support, the ability to operate as a Matter hub, and Thread support. These capabilities may matter if you want the router to participate in a smart-home setup, but vendor documentation is not an independent test of compatibility with every third-party device. Confirm that the specific devices and functions you rely on are supported.

Is Nest Wifi Pro worth buying?
Nest Wifi Pro is a plausible fit if you want a Google mesh system with a 6 GHz band, have compatible Wi-Fi 6E clients, and are comfortable adding only Nest Wifi Pro routers to expand it. Matter hub and Thread support may also suit a compatible smart-home setup.
Think carefully before buying if you want to reuse Google Wifi or older Nest Wifi nodes, need Ethernet ports faster than 1 Gbps, or are counting on a specific coverage or speed result. The listed features and specifications alone do not establish that it is cheaper, faster, or better value than another mesh kit; compare current prices and independent tests for systems that match your home and internet plan.
