Google Meet is Google’s app for video meetings and calls, and you can use it on a compatible Samsung Android phone. Meetings and direct calls are separate experiences in the app: a meeting typically starts from a link, while calls require calling setup that may include phone-number verification. Google lists Android 5.0 and up as the mobile app baseline, but features and Samsung settings can vary by model, region, and software version.
What “Meet” means on a Samsung phone
Meet is Google’s service, not a separate Samsung subscription. Google describes two experiences in the app: meetings and calls. That distinction matters when you are setting it up, troubleshooting incoming calls, or checking how each type of conversation is protected. Google’s overview of the Meet app explains the two experiences.
Google lists Android 5.0 and up as the minimum for the Meet mobile app. You also need an internet connection and a compatible version of the app. Requirements and features can change, so check Google’s current Meet requirements if the app will not install or a feature is unavailable.
Meet calls and meetings are not the same

Set up Meet on your Samsung phone
- Install or open Meet. Find Google Meet in the Play Store or open it if it is already installed. Check the Android compatibility requirement if installation is unavailable.
- Sign in for meetings. Use a Google Account to sign in. If you are joining someone else’s meeting, follow the link and any access prompts shown for that meeting.
- Allow camera and microphone access. Grant the permissions when Android prompts you, or change them later in Settings > Apps > Meet > Permissions.
- Set up calling separately if you want direct calls. Enable calling in Meet and complete any requested registration or phone-number verification. Google’s Android calling troubleshooting guidance also recommends keeping Meet and Gmail updated and granting relevant permissions.
Use Meet for a meeting or a direct call
Join a meeting
Open a meeting link and follow the on-screen prompts to join. Before entering, check that the intended camera and microphone are enabled; use the meeting controls to mute or turn off video when needed. Access can be governed by the host’s or organization’s settings.

Make or receive a call
Use the calling area of Meet to place or answer a direct call after calling setup is complete. If incoming calls do not ring, confirm registration and phone-number verification, update Meet and Gmail, and review the app’s permissions. Some work or school accounts may have organization controls that affect calling.
Privacy and encryption: what Google says
Google’s privacy descriptions differ between calls and meetings. It says audio and video for personal one-to-one and group calls in the new Meet app are end-to-end encrypted and not stored on Google servers. It also says live-caption audio is temporarily sent to a transcription server, is not linked to user identifiers, and is not permanently stored. Messages are stored encrypted on Google servers. For meetings, Google describes encryption in transit and cloud encryption; recordings are encrypted at rest in Drive. That is not the same claim as end-to-end encryption. Work and school accounts may also be subject to an organization’s controls and logging. Google’s encryption overview and Meet app overview provide additional context.

Some Galaxy phones have system-level video-call effects that can adjust framing or zoom. These controls are not necessarily part of Google Meet itself, and their availability and menu location vary by model and software version. For example, Samsung’s 2024 European Galaxy S23 FE manual describes video-call effects. It does not establish that every Samsung phone or region has the same feature.

Fix common Meet problems on Samsung
No one can hear you
- Check Android’s microphone permission: Settings > Apps > Meet > Permissions > Microphone.
- Make sure Meet has not muted you and that the intended audio input is selected.
- If you use Bluetooth, confirm the intended device is connected. Disconnect and reconnect it if audio is missing or routed incorrectly.

Incoming calls do not ring
- Complete calling registration and phone-number verification if prompted.
- Check Meet and Gmail are installed and up to date, and grant the relevant permissions.
- If this is a work or school account, ask the organization’s administrator whether account controls affect calling.

Audio or video quality is poor
- Update Meet and check that your Wi-Fi or mobile internet connection is stable; try another network if available.
- Try a headset with a microphone if the phone’s audio is unclear. Check that the wired or wireless connection is compatible with your Galaxy model.
- For connection-specific checks, use Google’s Android connection help and audio and video quality guidance.
