Google Maps may be preparing a way to share an entire Ask Maps conversation with a public link, but the feature is not available or confirmed. An October 8, 2026 report found work-in-progress clues in Google Maps version 26.41.00; the outlet could not get the sharing option to work in a chat.
What the Google Maps teardown found
Android Authority reported finding the interface string Public link to conversation in Google Maps version 26.41.00. The outlet also enabled a three-dot menu on the Ask Maps chat-history page. It included “Manage shared links,” which opened a “Shared public links” page, alongside an option to delete all conversations. However, the outlet could not surface a public-link option inside an Ask Maps conversation. Android Authority’s October 8 report describes these as clues in work-in-progress code, not a usable feature.
The same teardown suggested the Ask Maps entry might move into the search bar and be shortened to “Ask.” That possible interface change is also unconfirmed. APK teardowns can reveal features Google is exploring, but those features may never ship.

Not through the public conversation-link feature described in the teardown. Google Maps Help currently documents asking typed or spoken questions, following up, revisiting chats from History, and deleting an entire conversation on Android. It does not document public links for sharing a whole chat. Google’s Ask Maps guidance for Android explains the currently documented chat controls.
#1 Best Overall
Google Maps already lets users share places with other people, but sharing a place is different from sending someone the context and responses in an Ask Maps conversation. A conversation link could make it easier to pass along that context rather than copying a single response; that is a potential benefit, not a confirmed capability.
What Ask Maps does and where Google says it is available
Google introduced Ask Maps on March 12, 2026, as a conversational way to ask complex, real-world questions and see options on a customized map. At launch, Google said it was beginning to roll out in the United States and India on Android and iOS, with desktop coming soon. Google’s launch announcement also described sharing places with friends, not sharing complete Ask Maps chats through public links.

In an August 6, 2026 update, Google described additional Ask Maps capabilities, including agentic actions, real-time transit information, Personal Intelligence, and conversational contributions. Google said rollout was extending to Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, and Mexico, as well as to more than 150 countries and territories in English. These were rollout statements made on that date; they do not establish that every Ask Maps capability is available to every user or market today. Google’s August update does not confirm public conversation links.
What is still unknown about public links
The teardown does not establish whether the feature will launch, when it might arrive, which platforms or regions it would support, or how a shared link would work. In particular, there is no confirmed information about:

- get around with real-time traffic information
- Who would be able to open a link, or whether a Google account would be required.
- Whether a link could expose personalized or location-sensitive details from a conversation.
- Whether the person who created a link could revoke it or set an expiration date.
- Whether recipients would see the full conversation or have access to any other account information.
Google’s separate sharing features do not answer these questions, so the behavior should not be inferred from another Google product.
Consider privacy before using Ask Maps
Google says Maps AI features use location data and, depending on settings, may store location alongside interactions. In supported regions, when Personalized Recommendations is enabled, Ask Maps responses may also use searches, directions, past Ask Maps conversations, saved lists, reviews, ratings, photos, and connected Google content. Google documents controls for personalization and Maps Activity, and users can delete individual Ask Maps threads from chat history. See Google’s explanation of how AI-powered features use Maps data for details.

Google Maps Help cautions: “AI-powered answers can sometimes be incorrect. Be sure to double-check responses.” Verify important information against more than one source, whether or not a conversation-sharing option eventually arrives. Google’s Ask Maps guidance includes this warning.
What to check if Google launches the feature
If public conversation links become available, review Google’s official instructions before sharing a chat. The important details will be who can open the link, what conversation and personal information recipients can see, whether access can be revoked or expire, and which platforms and regions are supported. None of those controls is established by the teardown.
