Google Health’s Android home-screen widget is a quick-access shortcut, not a full health dashboard: it surfaces focus metrics from the Today tile or lets you start a Coach conversation. Google’s current help page says its quick-logging options are no longer available. If that limited glance is not enough, another widget may suit you—but verify its data sources, permissions, update behavior, and cost before installing it.
What Google Health’s widget actually does
Google describes the “Health – Quick Access Widget” as a way to reach focus metrics from the Today tile or start a Coach conversation without opening the app. The widget does not currently offer the quick logging options that were previously available, according to Google’s help page. Whether that makes it “bare-bones” is a matter of what you want from a home-screen glance; the documented functions are focused rather than a broad, customizable dashboard.
The app’s tabs also depend on your setup. With a connected Fitbit device or Pixel Watch, Google says the app has Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health tabs. Without a connected device, it has Today and Health. Google announced on May 7, 2026 that the Fitbit app was becoming the Google Health app; its announcement said existing Fitbit users would receive an app update and Google Fit users would be invited to migrate their data later in 2026. Migration timing and availability may change. See Google’s announcement for the current context.
How to add the Google Health widget on Android
- Long-press an empty area of your Android home screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Search for Health.
- Find Health – Quick Access Widget and add it to the home screen.
Google also documents an alternate route: long-press the app icon and use the widget option in its shortcut menu. Names and menu placement can vary by phone and launcher; if the directions do not match your screen, look for the Widgets menu or the app’s shortcut options.

What to check before switching to another health widget
A replacement is only useful if it can display the information you care about from a source you trust. Google Health can show some third-party data routed through Android Health Connect or Apple Health, but the available metrics vary by integration. Google notes that individual services may provide different data or omit some information, and that apps can calculate values differently. Android describes Health Connect as an on-device way for apps to share health data.
- Metrics: Confirm the widget displays the exact values you want, rather than assuming it supports every metric in your health app.
- Data source and permissions: Check which source app or Health Connect data types it needs, then grant only the access required for the metrics you want.
- Layout: See whether the widget’s size and arrangement work on your home screen; do not assume it can be customized.
- Update behavior: Look for information about how often values refresh and whether opening the source app is necessary. The available documentation cited here does not establish refresh behavior for any named alternative.
- Cost: Check the app listing for current charges or subscription requirements before relying on the widget.
- Detail view: Find out whether tapping a value opens the source app for context or history.
Google’s connected-app guidance explains that available data depends on the service. These checks are especially important when combining apps: a missing value may reflect the integration or permissions, not a problem with the widget itself.
What about Vital Widgets?
Vital Widgets has been named as a possible alternative, but the available article page could not be accessed to verify its current features. Its supported metrics, data connections, permissions, customization, refresh behavior, and pricing are therefore not established here. Do not assume it works with Google Health, Health Connect, or any particular tracker based on its name alone.

Keep Google Health’s widget if a shortcut to Today focus metrics or Coach is sufficient. If you need a different set of values or a more tailored layout, evaluate alternatives against their documented integrations and permissions rather than relying on a broad “better” claim. The available information does not establish a verified replacement widget or show that one option is best for every Android user.
