Google Cloud and Palo Alto Networks announced an expanded strategic partnership on December 19, 2025, focused on securing AI and cloud workloads. Reuters reported that Palo Alto Networks committed to pay Google Cloud an amount approaching $10 billion over several years. The companies did not confirm that figure or publish exact financial terms, so it is a reported estimate—not a confirmed contract price.

What the agreement covers

The partnership brings together Google Cloud’s AI and infrastructure services with Palo Alto Networks’ security products. It spans AI workload protection, cloud firewalls, and security for remote users and branch networks. The announcement describes a deeper technical and commercial relationship; it is not a consumer purchase or a single standalone product.

AI security with Prisma AIRS

Palo Alto Networks’ Prisma AIRS platform is intended to protect AI workloads and data hosted on Google Cloud, including applications using Vertex AI and Agent Engine. The December announcement lists capabilities across several parts of the AI lifecycle:

  • AI Posture Management addresses visibility into and management of AI-related risks.
  • AI Runtime Security is aimed at protecting AI systems while they operate.
  • AI Agent Security focuses on AI agents and their interactions.
  • AI Red Teaming is intended to test AI systems for weaknesses.
  • AI Model Security addresses security risks involving AI models.

The announcement identifies these product areas but does not specify that every capability is automatically included with every Google Cloud service or account. Customers should confirm availability, configuration, and commercial terms for the particular product and workload they plan to use.

VM-Series software firewalls

Palo Alto Networks’ VM-Series virtual firewalls provide deep packet inspection and threat prevention for public, private, hybrid, and virtualized environments. The expanded partnership adds deeper Google Cloud integrations. This is the network-security part of the deal: it is distinct from AIRS’s focus on AI systems and data.

Prisma SASE and remote access

Prisma SASE is designed to secure networking and access for remote users, branch offices, and mobile devices. The announcement says Prisma Access runs on Google’s network and uses Google Cloud Interconnect for multi-cloud connectivity. That positioning may matter to organizations trying to connect users and workloads across locations and cloud environments; it does not mean that all traffic or all customer networks move to Google Cloud.

What “approaching $10 billion” means

Reuters reported, citing a source with direct knowledge, that Palo Alto Networks would pay Google Cloud an amount approaching $10 billion over several years. Both companies declined to comment on the specific figure. The announcement therefore should not be read as a company-confirmed exact value, a one-time payment, or the purchase price of Palo Alto Networks.

Reuters also reported that some of the spending would go toward moving existing Palo Alto Networks offerings to Google Cloud, while a sizable portion would support new AI services. Palo Alto Networks said key internal workloads are moving to Google Cloud and that Vertex AI and Gemini power its copilots. These statements describe both infrastructure migration and product development, rather than a simple exchange of cash for a fixed bundle of services.

How the Marketplace figures fit in

The partnership announcements also cited Google Cloud Marketplace sales and integrations. These figures are company-reported milestones, not the value of the multiyear commitment Reuters described.

Announcement date and source Marketplace sales figure Other figures reported
April 2025, Palo Alto Networks More than $1.5 billion in cumulative Google Cloud Marketplace sales 31 Marketplace listings, 20 technical documents or reference architectures, and 75 solution integrations
December 19, 2025, Palo Alto Networks $2 billion in Google Cloud Marketplace sales More than 75 joint integrations

The two sales figures are attached to announcements from different dates, and their scopes are not defined in enough detail to treat them as a precise like-for-like series. The December release’s integration count is also not identical in wording to April’s “solution integrations” count. Neither set of figures confirms the reported payment commitment.

Why the partnership matters to cloud and security customers

For Google Cloud, the expansion strengthens its role as a platform for AI infrastructure and security services. For Palo Alto Networks, it deepens integration with Google Cloud and commits the company to significant cloud spending, while supporting migration and new AI services. Palo Alto Networks’ December announcement said it serves more than 70,000 organizations worldwide; that is the company’s stated customer count, not an independently audited market statistic.

For organizations evaluating the offerings, the practical questions are about fit and implementation—not just the headline figure:

  • AI workloads: Determine whether the AIRS capabilities address the models, agents, data, and runtime environment you actually use.
  • Cloud mix: Check how the intended deployment integrates with Google Cloud and any private, hybrid, or other cloud environments in scope.
  • Network coverage: Separate the needs handled by VM-Series firewalls from those handled by Prisma SASE and Prisma Access.
  • Procurement: Confirm which services are available through Google Cloud Marketplace and what terms apply to your organization.
  • Migration and operations: Assess the work required to move existing services, integrate policies and monitoring, and operate the combined environment.
  • Contract clarity: Seek written pricing, scope, and duration directly from the vendors; the public announcement does not disclose the exact financial terms.

The announcements describe intended capabilities and deeper integrations, but they do not establish a universal security outcome, a required migration path, or a guarantee that consolidating products will reduce costs or operational work. Those results depend on each customer’s architecture and deployment.

What is confirmed—and what remains unconfirmed

The December 19, 2025 announcement confirms an expanded partnership spanning AI security, firewalls, SASE, cloud migration, and internal use of Google AI services by Palo Alto Networks. Reuters reported the approximate multiyear payment commitment; the companies did not confirm the exact amount. The public information summarized here does not provide a detailed contract schedule, per-product pricing, or a customer-by-customer deployment plan.
