Google Calendar’s mobile app syncs past events for up to one year. Older events may still be available on calendar.google.com; Google’s guidance describes an app sync limit, not automatic deletion after a year. Deleted events have a separate 30-day recovery window in the Trash for the calendar where they were deleted.
What the one-year limit means
Google Calendar Help says, “The Calendar app only syncs past events up to one year.” For events older than that, Google directs users to calendar.google.com. The limit concerns what the mobile app syncs; it does not establish that Google deletes undeleted events after one year.
Google’s official support guidance reviewed here does not specify an overall maximum retention period or promise that undeleted events remain available indefinitely. So an old event missing from a phone is not, by itself, evidence that the event was deleted.

Open calendar.google.com in a browser and sign in to the Google Account you used for the event.

Make sure the calendar that should contain the event is visible in the calendar list.

Check whether the event was created on a different calendar or under another Google Account. Google notes that events added to a calendar not associated with the Google Account may not appear in the Calendar app or at calendar.google.com.

If the event is absent on the web calendar too, check the account and calendar before assuming that the app’s one-year sync window explains it.

How long deleted events stay recoverable
Deleted or spam-marked events remain in the relevant calendar’s Trash for 30 days. Trash is separate for each calendar, and you need suitable access to that calendar to view or restore its items.

On a computer, open Google Calendar and select the calendar where the event was created.

Open Settings, then Trash.

If the event is there, restore it before the 30-day period ends. If you manage several calendars, check the Trash for each relevant calendar.
Calendar editors may be able to permanently delete or restore items. If an event is missing from Trash, consider both access permissions and whether the 30-day window has passed.
Recurring-event exception
When a user deletes a recurring series by choosing “This and following events” or “All following,” those future instances are removed without being moved to Trash. They cannot be restored from Trash.

How the two time windows differ

How to keep a separate copy of available events
To preserve records that are still available, export calendars from Google Calendar on a computer as .ics files. Exporting requires “Make changes and manage sharing” permission, and a work or school administrator may restrict it.
Google Calendar data download can include event start and end times, recurring-event details, invitees and responses, titles, descriptions, locations when available, and creation and modification times. It excludes deleted data, so downloading data is a preservation option—not a way to recover events that have already been deleted.
