Previewing does not require a Web Hosting plan; publishing does. GoDaddy describes the service as a simpler route to getting an app online, not as a hosting option whose performance has been independently tested.
What GoDaddy announced
GoDaddy’s September 29, 2026 announcement introduced Node.js Hosting alongside an API for deploying and managing web apps. The company says developers can provide source code as a zip file or connect a GitHub repository, inspect a private preview, and publish the app with a connected domain. The announcement describes HTTPS, a content delivery network (CDN), and a web application firewall for published apps. These are GoDaddy’s product claims; the announcement does not provide independent security or performance testing. GoDaddy’s announcement quotes Bhala Dalvi, identified as the company’s CTO, products and AI: “Getting an app working shouldn’t mean you now have to learn how to host it,”
Can you try an app before paying for a hosting plan?
GoDaddy says private preview is available without a Web Hosting plan or credit card, for up to two preview apps. Publishing is different: a GoDaddy Web Hosting subscription must be attached to the app before it can go live. GoDaddy’s Hosting API documentation also distinguishes each app’s preview and publish variants.
The company’s plan attachment guide says Web Hosting subscriptions are purchased separately in a GoDaddy account. An August 2026 GoDaddy article listed Economy, Deluxe, and Ultimate plans as including Node.js Hosting, with respective published-app allowances of 1, 10, and 25 at that time. Those are dated vendor-reported allowances, not verified current terms; check GoDaddy’s current plans and account details before choosing a plan.

How the deployment workflow works
GoDaddy documents an API-based workflow that creates an app, uploads its source, attaches a Web Hosting subscription, publishes, and checks whether the published environment is running. Its API documentation says the API can be used from code, the gddy CLI, or an AI coding agent. Write operations are asynchronous: the client receives a job or deployment record and must poll it to learn when the operation completes.
- Prepare the app: Package the project as a zip with a root-level
package.json. - Create and upload: Use the Hosting API to create an app and upload the zip, or use the source connection GoDaddy provides for GitHub repositories.
- Preview: Inspect the private preview before making the app public.
- Attach a plan: Connect a GoDaddy Web Hosting subscription to the app before publication.
- Publish and check status: Publish, then poll the returned job or deployment record until the environment is reported as running.
For an existing app update, GoDaddy’s deployment walkthrough says to upload the new source and publish again; it does not require creating another app or attaching another plan.

Check these Node.js package requirements before uploading
GoDaddy’s Node.js app requirements specify a root-level package.json with non-empty name and version fields. Packages needed when the app runs must be listed in dependencies. The platform installs those dependencies before running build and start; a runtime package left in devDependencies can cause a MODULE_NOT_FOUND startup error.
What is known about runtime and plan details?
GoDaddy’s August 2026 product article described a persistent Node.js 22 process, zip uploads up to 100 MB, automatic framework detection, and GitHub redeployment when changes are pushed to a selected branch. Those details come from an earlier vendor article, so they should not be treated as current API guarantees without confirmation in GoDaddy’s current documentation. The September launch announcement and API materials establish the preview-and-publish workflow, but do not offer independent uptime benchmarks or comparative performance measurements.

What to weigh before publishing
GoDaddy’s announcement presents a managed path from source to a published app, including preview and API-based operations. Before committing to it, check the current plan allowance and total cost, how the app’s runtime fits your needs, and what operational controls and supporting services your project requires. The launch materials describe HTTPS, CDN, and firewall features, but do not establish how they compare with another host or independently measure their effectiveness.
