The GMKtec NucBox G1 is a very small, upgradeable Windows desktop best suited to basic office work, thin-client use, kiosks, and digital signage. Its Intel N95 processor and entry-level integrated graphics are the key limitation: this is not a strong choice for demanding workloads or gaming. The details below come from TechRadar’s and ITPro’s reviews published in May 2023, so verify the exact configuration and current availability before buying.
What the GMKtec NucBox G1 is—and who it suits
The G1 is a compact mini PC built around Intel’s N95, a four-core, four-thread processor with integrated Intel UHD Graphics. The review configurations ran Windows 11 Pro; TechRadar tested a model with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB NVMe SSD. Configurations may vary by seller or region, so check the listing for the precise memory, storage, and wireless hardware.
Its best fit is a fixed, light-duty desktop role: document editing, web-based office work, a thin-client connection, or a small PC mounted behind a display. Its small chassis also makes it an option to consider for home-theater playback, but the evidence here supports only a specific YouTube test, not every streaming app or media workload.
Performance: enough for light work, not a performance desktop
TechRadar characterized its review unit as adequate for basic office use and advised against buying it for gaming. Reviewer Mark Pickavance wrote that the “CPU with four E-cores and UHD graphics is only suitable for light office duties and not anything more.” That is a reviewer’s assessment of the tested system, not a manufacturer specification.

Benchmark results differed between the two publications, so they should be read as separate review-unit measurements rather than combined into a single expected score:

TechRadar also measured 3,750 in Geekbench 5 OpenCL and 3,134 in PCMark 10; its review-unit SSD sequential read and write results were 1,773 MB/s and 1,712 MB/s. These are that publication’s tests, not guaranteed results for every G1 configuration. ITPro reported weak graphics performance, but observed smooth 4K YouTube playback at 60 frames per second without dropped frames during its 15-minute test. ITPro also found that the unit’s 2.5GbE port delivered 1GbE in its test; that is a single-review observation, not proof of a universal port limitation.

Ports, displays, and wireless vary by reported configuration
The detailed review text at both publications describes four USB-A ports, two HDMI outputs, and 2.5GbE Ethernet. ITPro also lists a 3.5mm audio jack and HDMI 2.0. Neither review’s detailed description reports USB-C or DisplayPort, so do not assume either is available if your monitor or peripherals require it.
There is a specification conflict on TechRadar’s page: its top specification block lists two Thunderbolt 4/USB4 Type-C ports and port counts that do not match its detailed review text. The detailed text aligns with ITPro’s account of four USB-A ports and two HDMI outputs; treat the top block’s USB-C/Thunderbolt entry as unverified, not as a feature to rely on.

Wireless hardware is also inconsistent across the reviews. TechRadar’s specification block names Wi-Fi 6E AX211 and Bluetooth 5.2, while ITPro reports a Realtek 8852BE Wi-Fi 6 card without 6GHz support and lists Bluetooth inconsistently in its specification table. Check the exact SKU if Wi-Fi 6E, 6GHz access, or a particular Bluetooth version matters.
Small chassis, with memory and storage access underneath
The reviews give slightly different chassis measurements: TechRadar reports 113 × 105 × 44 mm, while ITPro reports 114 × 106 × 42.5 mm and a weight of 360 g. Both describe access through the removable base, secured by four screws, making the memory and storage reachable for upgrades.

The specific expansion details do not agree:
- TechRadar’s 8GB unit had one free SODIMM slot, an occupied M.2 2280 SSD slot, and an unoccupied M.2 2230 slot. It says the memory maximum is 16GB.
- ITPro describes an 8GB single-channel DDR4-3200 configuration, a 512GB M.2 PCIe 3 2280 SSD, and an mSATA 2242 mounting point.
The reviews do not resolve whether this difference reflects separate units or configurations. Before buying a memory module or second drive, confirm the actual unit’s memory type and maximum, slot type, interface, and physical format with the seller or manufacturer. Do not assume that a particular M.2 or mSATA drive will fit based solely on one review.

Compare the G1 with alternatives using the work you need it to do and the connections your setup requires, not just its small size. TechRadar named the Beelink SEi11 Pro as a faster alternative in its 2023 article, but that historical comparison does not establish today’s price or value.

- Workload: For basic office tasks or a dedicated thin client, the N95 platform is the intended fit. For gaming, graphics-heavy work, or demanding multitasking, the review evidence points away from the G1.
- Displays and peripherals: Confirm that the reported HDMI and USB-A connections meet your needs; do not count on USB-C or DisplayPort without SKU-specific confirmation.
- Networking: The reviews describe 2.5GbE, but ITPro observed 1GbE in its test. If multi-gigabit performance is essential, verify it on the exact unit and network rather than relying on the port label alone.
- Upgrades: Memory and storage are accessible, but slot descriptions conflict. Treat upgrades as possible only after confirming compatibility.
- Mounting: ITPro reports that a VESA bracket was included in its reviewed package. Check the contents of the particular listing rather than buying a separate bracket by default.
What to verify before purchase
The reviews are from May 2023; they do not establish the G1’s current price, stock, seller, warranty, support terms, or the configuration currently being sold. Before ordering, check the listing for the processor, included RAM and SSD, wireless module, port layout, upgrade compatibility, and included accessories. Use the total current price—not a price quoted in a 2023 review—to compare it with other mini PCs.
