GigaDevice announced the GDSCN832, its first EtherCAT SubDevice Controller, on November 12, 2024, alongside the GD32H75E industrial MCU series, which integrates an EtherCAT controller. The GDSCN832 is a standalone controller; the GD32H75E combines controller and processor in one MCU. GigaDevice said samples and development boards were available at launch and set a second-quarter 2025 mass-production target—historical plans that do not establish current stock or availability.
What is GigaDevice’s EtherCAT SubDevice Controller?
The GDSCN832 is a standalone EtherCAT SubDevice Controller (ESC) designed to handle EtherCAT communication while interfacing with a separate host processor. GigaDevice announced it on November 12, 2024, describing it as the company’s first EtherCAT SubDevice Controller and stating that the implementation was authorized by Beckhoff. The GD32H75Exx datasheet also identifies its EtherCAT controller as licensed from Beckhoff Automation.
GigaDevice uses the term “SubDevice”; many older EtherCAT materials use “slave” for the corresponding role. EtherCAT Technology Group’s ESC overview lists GigaDevice’s GD32H75E among ESC-related products, providing ecosystem context for the family.
What are the GDSCN832’s main specifications?
In its November 12, 2024 announcement, GigaDevice described the GDSCN832 as a 2/3-port controller with two internal PHYs and one MII extension interface. Its two integrated Ethernet channels support full-duplex 100BASE-TX at 100 Mbps.

How does the GD32H75E differ from the standalone controller?
The GD32H75E is an industrial MCU series with an EtherCAT controller integrated alongside its processor. The GDSCN832, by contrast, is a separate ESC that connects to a host MCU or other processor. GigaDevice’s November 12, 2024 announcement gives the GD32H75E an Arm Cortex-M7 core running up to 600 MHz, plus a DSP accelerator, double-precision FPU, hardware trigonometric accelerator and filter algorithm accelerator.

| Likely architectural fit | A design with an existing host MCU or a need to select the host separately | A design that can use an integrated EtherCAT controller and MCU |
The architectural-fit descriptions are design considerations, not product guarantees. The announcement positions both families for servo control, variable-frequency drives, industrial PLCs and industrial communication modules.
Which architecture should an industrial design use?
The choice depends on the system around the controller, not just its headline processor speed. These comparison points are engineering considerations based on the two documented architectures:

- Existing host MCU: If the product already has a suitable MCU, a standalone ESC such as the GDSCN832 may fit that split architecture. If selecting a new processor, assess whether the GD32H75E’s integrated controller and MCU meet the design’s needs.
- Interfaces and board design: Check the host bus, Ethernet ports and PHY arrangement against the required board connections. The GDSCN832 provides serial or parallel host communication, several SPI-family options and an MII extension interface; confirm that the chosen interface and pinout suit the application.
- Timing and data mapping: Compare the required EtherCAT mapping and synchronization resources with the GDSCN832’s eight FMMUs, eight Sync Managers, up to 8 KB of DPRAM and distributed clock. The announcement gives the clock’s precision as below 1 µs; validate application-level timing behavior in the intended system.
- Processing workload: Evaluate the GD32H75E’s Cortex-M7 and listed accelerators against the application’s control and signal-processing workload. For a standalone ESC design, size and select the host processor separately.
- Power, package and integration: Account for the GDSCN832’s QFN64 package, supply arrangement and required external host in the board design. Compare those constraints with the integrated MCU design using the relevant device documentation.
- Software and qualification: Confirm toolchain, firmware, EtherCAT configuration, system-level validation and any applicable certification requirements for the complete product. The launch announcement does not specify a complete software or certification workflow.
When was it launched, and what does the availability statement mean?
