Short answer: GIGABYTE’s support material says “Preparation for upcoming processor support,” but that wording does not identify a future CPU or confirm that it is “Raptor Lake NEXT.” Nor does it establish support across every LGA1700 motherboard. For a real upgrade, check the exact board model and revision, its CPU support list, and the BIOS version required for the processor.
What GIGABYTE’s support note actually says
The GIGABYTE support page for the B760M AORUS PRO AX (Rev. 1.x) includes the phrase “Preparation for upcoming processor support.” The wording signals preparation, but the page does not name the processor in that note. It is not an announcement of a product name, release date, specifications, or a complete compatibility list.
Connecting that generic phrase to “Raptor Lake NEXT” is speculation, not confirmation from GIGABYTE or Intel. The official material available here does not establish that a future consumer processor with that name will launch, or which specific boards—if any—will support it.
What LGA1700 support means for current processors
Intel says its 14th-generation Core desktop processors use the LGA1700 socket and require a motherboard based on an Intel 600- or 700-series chipset. Intel also notes that a BIOS update is required for some upgrades from 12th- or 13th-generation processors to 14th generation on those boards. See Intel’s 14th-generation desktop processor compatibility guidance and its BIOS update guidance for Intel 600- and 700-series motherboards.

That established compatibility applies to the processor generations Intel documents; it does not prove compatibility with an unnamed future CPU. A shared socket is only one part of the check: firmware support and the motherboard’s exact model and revision matter too.
How to check a specific GIGABYTE motherboard
- Identify the exact board and revision. Use the model name and revision printed on the motherboard or shown in system information. A similar product name or chipset is not a substitute for the precise model.
- Open that model’s GIGABYTE support page. Find its CPU support list and check whether the exact processor appears. GIGABYTE provides motherboard-specific support information and a CPU Support List; a general upcoming-processor note is not a board-wide compatibility guarantee.
- Check the minimum BIOS version. If the CPU is listed, compare its required BIOS version with the version installed on the board. Follow Intel’s BIOS guidance before changing processors, and use the motherboard’s instructions for updating firmware.
- Confirm you can update before installing the new CPU. Check whether the board can update its BIOS without a currently supported processor, or whether you need a compatible CPU installed to perform the update. Do not assume this capability; confirm it in the documentation for your exact board.
If the future processor is not listed for your board, the available information does not establish that it will work. Recheck the board’s CPU list and BIOS releases when an official processor model and support entries are published.

Do not confuse LGA1700 with LGA1851
Intel says Core Ultra desktop processors Series 2 use the LGA1851 socket, which is incompatible with LGA1700. Similar dimensions or broad “next generation” language do not make the sockets interchangeable. Intel’s LGA1851 and LGA1700 socket compatibility guidance addresses this distinction.
What is still unconfirmed
- The exact model name and specifications of the prospective processor referred to by the GIGABYTE wording.
- Whether or when that processor will be sold as a consumer desktop CPU.
- Which GIGABYTE LGA1700 motherboard models and revisions, if any, will support it, and what BIOS versions they would require.
Until a named processor appears in an official announcement and in the CPU support list for a specific motherboard, the note is not a basis for buying a board or promising an upgrade path.
