1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAstro content collections organize related content entries around a shared structure. To get started, register a collection in src/content.config.ts, choose a loader that matches where your content is stored, optionally define a schema to validate its fields, and query entries with getCollection() or getEntry(). You can use local files without connecting a CMS.
What a content collection does
A collection groups entries—such as blog posts—with their content and metadata. Instead of finding files with a general file-matching approach, you can ask Astro for entries in a named collection. Astro’s tutorial demonstrates replacing import.meta.glob() with getCollection() to retrieve blog content and metadata: Astro tutorial: making a content collection.
Astro’s current content collection guide uses the content layer configuration file src/content.config.ts. It also supports .js and .mjs extensions. Check the documentation for the Astro version your project uses, as APIs and conventions may change: Astro Content Collections guide.
Choose a loader for your content layout
The loader should reflect how the source is organized—not an assumed difference in speed. Use glob() when each entry is a separate file. Use file() when one local file contains multiple entries. The Astro guide documents these built-in loader patterns and their input formats: Astro Content Collections guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Loader | Content layout | ID handling | Documented inputs |
|---|---|---|---|
glob() |
One entry per file, matched by a pattern and base path | Generated from filenames by default; custom ID generation is available | Markdown, MDX, Markdoc, JSON, YAML, and TOML |
file() |
Multiple entries in one local file | Each entry needs a unique ID; IDs are not generated automatically | Arrays of objects in JSON or YAML and top-level tables in TOML; a parser can be supplied for other formats or layouts |
A custom loader is an option when content comes from a remote source such as a CMS, database, or API. Astro’s guide also refers to community loaders, but compatibility and provider terms need to be checked separately before choosing one: Astro Content Collections guide.
Register a collection and define its schema
Create src/content.config.ts, import the collection helper and the loader you need, define the collection, then export all collection definitions in one collections object. A schema is optional, but Astro recommends one. This example follows the documented configuration shape; adapt the path and fields to match your files:

import { defineCollection } from 'astro:content';
import { glob } from 'astro/loaders';
import { z } from 'astro/zod';
const blog = defineCollection({
loader: glob({ pattern: '**/*.md', base: './src/content/blog' }),
schema: z.object({
title: z.string(),
description: z.string(),
}),
});
export const collections = { blog };
With this example, the blog collection looks for Markdown files under src/content/blog. Its schema expects each entry’s data to include string-valued title and description fields. If the file data does not match the schema, validation fails. Astro uses schemas to validate content and generate TypeScript types, which provide type checking and editor autocomplete. See the guide’s schema details at Astro Content Collections.
- Import
defineCollectionfromastro:content. - For local files, import
globorfilefromastro/loaders. - For a Zod schema, import
zfromastro/zod. - Set fields to match the actual frontmatter or record data in your entries.
- Export the named collection definitions together as
collections.
After adding or changing a schema, the astro:content module may need to update. Astro says to restart the development server or sync the content layer by entering s and then pressing Enter in the server terminal: Astro Content Collections guide.

Query entries in a page or component
Once the collection is configured, use getCollection() to retrieve entries from it, or getEntry() to retrieve one entry. For example, getEntry('dogs', 'poodle') retrieves an entry from the dogs collection with the ID poodle. The collection API documents both query functions and their returned entry data: Astro Content Collections API Reference.
The result includes the entry’s identity and data. Document entries also include the raw, uncompiled body content. If you want to render a Markdown, MDX, or Markdoc entry, use the rendering pattern documented for your Astro version rather than assuming the query alone renders it; consult the current Content Collections API Reference.

When the order of displayed entries matters, sort them explicitly. Astro warns that “The sort order of generated collections is non-deterministic and platform-dependent.” Do not rely on whichever order a collection happens to return: Astro Content Collections API Reference.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Add relationships only when entries need them
If one entry needs to point to another—for example, a blog post to its author profile—Astro’s reference() can describe a field that refers to an entry in another collection. The referenced ID must exist in that collection. This is useful once basic collections are working; it is not required for a collection of independent entries. See the guide’s reference documentation: Astro Content Collections guide.
