You usually don’t pair a Samsung TV remote to a soundbar as a Bluetooth accessory. Connect the soundbar to the TV, select it as the TV’s sound output, and use the connection method’s control settings. Samsung says its TV remote can adjust volume and mute with a soundbar connected by HDMI ARC or optical; exact menus and compatibility vary by model and region.
Choose how to connect the soundbar
Pick a connection supported by both devices. HDMI ARC or eARC and optical are wired audio connections; Bluetooth pairs the soundbar to the TV as an audio output device. Bluetooth pairing is not the same as pairing the TV remote.
| Connection | What you need | Control and setup details |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI ARC | ARC ports on the TV and soundbar, plus an HDMI cable | Select the soundbar as the TV sound output. Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) may be needed for device control and power synchronization. |
| HDMI eARC | eARC-compatible TV and soundbar, plus a suitable HDMI cable | Samsung instructs users to enable Anynet+ and set HDMI eARC Mode to Auto. Confirm support for the exact models. |
| Optical | Optical output on the TV, optical input on the soundbar, and an optical cable | Select the external or optical output on the TV and D.IN on the soundbar. Samsung’s US guide says Auto Power Link works only with optical. |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth audio support on the TV and soundbar | Pair the soundbar from the TV’s Bluetooth Speaker List. This connects audio, not the remote. |
These are setup distinctions, not a universal compatibility ranking. Check the ports and manuals for your particular TV and soundbar. Samsung notes that menu names and options can vary by model and region (Samsung US soundbar connection guide; Samsung Canada connection guide).

Connect with HDMI ARC
- Connect the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (ARC) port to the TV’s HDMI (ARC) port using an HDMI cable.
- On the soundbar, choose D.IN. Samsung says the source should change to TV ARC after a short delay.
- On the TV, open Settings > Sound > Sound Output and select the soundbar. The precise labels may differ.
- If needed for device control or automatic power behavior, enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) in the TV settings.
Samsung says a soundbar connected by HDMI ARC can have its volume and mute controlled with the Samsung TV remote. Connection and TV sound-output selection come first; the remote is not being paired as a separate Bluetooth device (Samsung US setup instructions).

Connect with HDMI eARC
Use eARC only if both devices support it. Samsung’s instructions are to enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC), then set HDMI eARC Mode to Auto. The path is Settings (All Settings) > Audio or Sound > Expert Settings > HDMI eARC Mode; wording can vary. Samsung describes eARC support on its TVs and soundbars made in 2020 and newer, but that broad note does not confirm compatibility for every model. Check both product manuals (Samsung eARC setup guidance).
Connect with an optical cable
- Connect the TV’s optical output to the soundbar’s optical input. Remove any protective caps from the cable ends before connecting.
- On the TV, select the external or optical sound output.
- Set the soundbar’s source to D.IN.
- If you want the TV to switch the soundbar on and off, use Auto Power Link if your model offers it.
Samsung’s US guide says Auto Power Link works only with an optical connection and is on by default according to that guide. Model behavior may vary (Samsung US optical setup instructions).

Connect with Bluetooth
Bluetooth pairs the soundbar to the TV for audio playback. It does not pair the Samsung TV remote to the soundbar. On supported Samsung TVs, Samsung India gives this path:
- Put the soundbar into Bluetooth pairing mode.
- On the TV, open Home > Settings > All Settings > Sound > Sound Output > BT Speaker List.
- Select the soundbar and choose Pair and Connect.
Menu paths and availability may differ by model and region (Samsung India Bluetooth setup).

If the remote still won’t control volume
- Confirm the soundbar is the selected output. Open the TV’s Sound Output settings and select the connected soundbar.
- Check the soundbar’s input. Samsung lists D.IN for optical and HDMI ARC for an ARC connection; the source should match the cable route.
- Check ports and connections. Confirm the cable runs from the TV’s output to the soundbar’s corresponding input and is firmly seated at both ends. Remove protective caps where present.
- Try the supported-soundbar remote setting. On compatible Samsung soundbars, turn the soundbar on and hold WOOFER until ON – TV REMOTE appears. Samsung’s US guide gives an approximate five-second hold. This is model-specific; consult the soundbar manual if the button or display differs.
For no sound, Samsung also recommends confirming the selected source and secure cable connections (Samsung soundbar troubleshooting).
