To generate multiple images from separate prompts and save them automatically, use the Gemini API with a script. Gemini Apps supports generating an image and downloading it manually, but Google’s help page does not document batch submission of separate prompts with automatic saving. For larger jobs that can wait, Google also supports image generation through the Gemini API Batch API, with turnaround that can take up to 24 hours.

Google’s official guides cover these workflows in Gemini Apps Help and the Gemini API image-generation documentation.

How to generate and automatically save multiple images with the Gemini API

The API examples show how to request an image and write the returned image data to a file. A multi-prompt workflow builds on that pattern: keep a list of prompts, send a request for each one, and save each response under a unique name. File naming, prompt tracking, retries, and error handling are parts of your script design—not automatic features of the one-image example.

  1. Choose interactive requests or a batch job. Use individual API calls when you want results promptly and expect to iterate. Choose the Batch API when you can wait for asynchronous processing; Google documents turnaround of up to 24 hours.
  2. Prepare the prompts and filenames. Give each prompt a unique identifier or sanitized prompt slug, ideally with a sequence number. This prevents later results from overwriting earlier files.
  3. Set up the current official API example. Follow Google’s image-generation guide for the model and SDK you plan to use. Its Python example decodes returned image data and writes generated_image.png; its JavaScript example also writes a PNG file.
  4. Repeat the request-and-save pattern. Loop over your prompt list, send each prompt, and write each returned image to its own filename. Record which prompt produced each file so you can identify outputs later.
  5. Handle failures deliberately. Add error handling and decide how your script should treat failed requests or saves. For Batch API jobs, follow Google’s current instructions for retrieving results before saving each image under a unique name.
  6. Check current account limits before scaling. Review Google’s documentation for the model’s support, pricing, quotas, rate limits, and terms before running a large job; these details can change.

For the current request formats and saving examples, see Google’s Gemini API image-generation guide. Google’s Gemini API reference describes batch mode.

Generate and download images in Gemini Apps

  1. Open Gemini Apps and enter an image prompt. Google suggests starting with a request such as “draw,” “generate,” or “create,” then describing the subject, action, setting, and style.
  2. Generate the image.
  3. On the web app, hover over the image and select its download control to save it.

Gemini Apps Help also describes exporting an image to Docs. These are actions for generated images, not a documented hands-off process for submitting many separate prompts and automatically saving every result. Interface labels and model names can change, so check the current Gemini Apps Help page.

Check access and costs before you start

  • Gemini Apps access: Availability can depend on supported language and country, sign-in, age, and account type. Check Google’s current eligibility details.
  • API setup: The scripted route requires developer setup and code. You are responsible for organizing files and handling errors.
  • API usage: Pricing, quotas, and rate limits depend on current Google policies and account details. Verify them in the official API documentation before scaling up.
  • Batch timing: Batch jobs are asynchronous, and documented turnaround can be up to 24 hours; they are not an instant-download option.
