He called its role as an Xbox flagship an honor and an exciting prospect. His reported comments describe platform identity and the team’s enthusiasm; they do not say that exclusivity proves the game’s quality.
What the E-Day developer said about Xbox exclusivity
In a June 19, 2026 interview report, TechRadar quoted Searcy saying, “I would say that Gears as an exclusive makes a ton of sense to me, thinking about how tightly […] Gears has been tied to the Xbox brand [for] its entire life.” The ellipsis and bracketed clarification are part of the published transcription.

Searcy also said, “It’s kind of an honor, and I think excitement to be like one of the best Xbox flagship titles. As a developer, of course, it’s awesome to have people play our games, but we’re Xbox fans.” He acknowledged the appeal of reaching players, but said the team was “not too concerned about the size of the audience.” These remarks indicate that he sees the franchise’s Xbox association as a good fit; they are not a claim that exclusivity demonstrates quality or a measure of the finished game.
TechRadar’s interview report also quotes Xbox executive Matt Booty discussing a separate platform-holder rationale: giving people a reason to buy an Xbox or become Xbox fans, and rewarding long-time Xbox supporters. That is Xbox management’s explanation, not Searcy’s statement.

Is Gears of War: E-Day coming to PS5?
In the same interview report, Searcy said the studio had not discussed a PS5 release. That does not amount to a permanent guarantee about every future platform decision, but the announced platform list is Xbox and PC, not PS5. The clearest current description is Xbox console exclusive, with PC versions also announced.
That distinction matters: “Xbox exclusive” does not mean the game is limited to Xbox hardware. Official materials list Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam, as well as play through Game Pass. What is known about the game and its release?
Xbox describes E-Day as an origin story set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. It follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde emerges. The Coalition says it built the game from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, with new assets and animation rather than assets ported from earlier games. Those are concrete details about the project, but they do not turn platform exclusivity into evidence of quality.
As of October 3, 2026, Xbox sources listed October 6, 2026 as the scheduled global release date. That date was still in the future at the time of those sources; it should not be described as proof that the game has launched. Xbox’s game overview and the official product page provide the release and platform information. Edition details and storefront availability may vary by region and change over time.

Which editions are listed?
The official product information lists three main options. It distinguishes the Standard Edition from the Premium Edition and its upgrade; the Collector’s Edition is a separate physical-focused package described by Xbox Wire.

The Xbox Wire Collector’s Edition announcement lists the Xbox Series X Premium Edition on disc, up to five days of early access, a 15-inch statue, SteelBook, replica COG tags, an in-game replica photograph, a premium art print and additional digital content. Xbox announced October 1 early access for this edition. Prices and current retailer inventory are not established here; Xbox says availability varies by region and quantities are limited.

What the exclusivity comments do—and do not—establish
- They establish Searcy’s view of franchise fit: he considers an Xbox console exclusive sensible given Gears’ longstanding Xbox association.
- They convey pride in the flagship role: he called it an honor and expressed excitement about the game representing Xbox.
- They do not establish a quality verdict: Searcy did not say that exclusivity proves the developers’ work is good, nor is exclusivity itself a test of a game’s quality.
- They do not rule out every future platform change: the interview says PS5 had not been discussed, while the currently announced platform list is Xbox and PC.
