There is no official best-class ranking for Gears of War: E-Day. For Horde Siege, a class’s value depends on the mission and what the other three players bring; Assault, Marksman, Medic, and Breacher are roles to mix and match, not a fixed tier list. Versus is a separate 4v4 mode, and the available official information does not establish class-based Versus tiers.
Horde Siege class tier list: rank by what your squad needs
This is an editorial framework for choosing a Horde Siege class, not a measured performance leaderboard. The Coalition says classes are designed to complement one another, but there is “no ‘right’ way to set up a squad,” and even a four-Breacher squad is a valid choice. Rank a class by how well it fits the mission and the other players—not by assuming one role is always strongest. The Coalition’s Multiplayer Deep Dive does not publish class win rates, pick rates, or performance measurements.
Horde Siege is a 12-player PvE mode: three squads of four share larger maps, complete individual missions and shared objectives, and encounter world bosses and optional objectives that reward the squad. Those demands make team composition situational. Xbox Wire’s June 2026 overview and its July 2026 multiplayer deep dive describe the mode and its structure.

The official class descriptions name these four roles but do not assign comparative strengths or a ranked order. Treat any “S-tier” or “best class” claim as a player’s preference unless it is backed by specific, current class-level evidence.

How to choose for a particular Horde Siege run
- Check the mission. Consider its objectives and the threats or targets it presents. The official mode descriptions establish these as relevant parts of the experience, but do not prescribe a class counter for any mission.
- Ask what the squad already covers. Choose a role that complements the other three players, or deliberately build around a shared preference. The Coalition does not require a balanced or varied lineup.
- Coordinate across the wider team when useful. Horde Siege has three squads of four on shared maps, so squad-level choices sit within a larger team pursuing shared objectives.
Is there a best class for Versus?
No class-based Versus tier list is established by the official material cited here. Versus is a separate 4v4 PvP format: players start with the same loadout weapons and equipment, and the mode has no weapon mods. Those rules do not make Horde Siege class rankings applicable to Versus. For Versus, consider the map, objective, your skill, and coordination with teammates rather than importing a PvE class tier list. The Coalition’s multiplayer overview describes these rules.

Balance is time-sensitive. In its September 30, 2026 update, The Coalition said it would monitor player telemetry and feedback to guide tuning and listed weapon changes made since the August beta. The same update says Season 1: Emergence runs for eight weeks through December 1, 2026, and Versus Ranked launches October 13, 2026. Those dates and tuning notes provide context, not proof of a class ranking; check current updates before treating any tier list as definitive. Read the September 30 update from The Coalition.
