If you want more of Travis Touchdown’s mix of oddball storytelling and action, start with No More Heroes III for the closest continuation. For a stranger, game-within-a-game detour, choose Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. If what you want most is flamboyant, weapon-rich combat rather than Travis’s story, try Bayonetta.
What makes a game feel like No More Heroes?
No More Heroes follows Travis Touchdown as he tries to climb the United Assassins Association rankings. Its fights revolve around a beam katana and pro-wrestling moves, but the game also breaks up ranked battles with jobs, training, and motorbike rides around Santa Destroy. That combination matters when choosing an alternative: a game can match the combat spectacle without matching the humor or story.

No More Heroes III: the closest continuation
Pick No More Heroes III if the main appeal is returning to Travis and the series’ central format. The official series chronology traces the original Wii game to 2007, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle to 2010, the spin-off Travis Strikes Again to 2019, and No More Heroes III to 2021. The series site lists the third game for Switch in 2021, then PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC in 2022. See the official No More Heroes series site for its chronology and platform listings.
#1 Best Overall
- Earn money to enter ranked battles! To enter into each subsequent ranked battle, you’ll need to pay a pretty steep fee. Travis must take on various missions around town to make the money he needs to fight
- Use your skills to dominate opponents! Enjoy even more hardcore slash-‘em-up action than ever before as you use the Joy-Con’s intuitive controls to wield Travis Touchdown’s trusty Beam Katana along with a slew of pro wrestling techniques!
- Also, featured for the first time in the series, Travis can now use his Death Glove to activate a variety of skills, allowing for more strategic battles
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes: the experimental detour
Choose Travis Strikes Again for more of the franchise’s self-aware weirdness, not for a conventional mainline sequel. Set several years after No More Heroes 2, it pulls Travis and Badman into the Death Drive Mk II, where they enter different game worlds and face their respective heroes. Marvelous describes its action as a blend of classic game action and quirky, original battles. The official Marvelous page outlines the premise, while the official system page describes the game’s action approach.
Bayonetta: the combat-spectacle alternative
Try Bayonetta if stylish, expressive fighting matters more than a connection to Travis or Grasshopper Manufacture. PlatinumGames describes it as a 3D action game built around Bullet Arts, which combine melee and ranged attacks, alongside an arsenal of weapons, magical attacks, and elaborate settings. The official Bayonetta page lists editions for Switch, Windows PC via Steam, PS4, and Xbox One, as well as earlier platforms. Its fantasy tone and narrative are different, so think of it as a combat match rather than a story equivalent.

How to decide between them
- Want more Travis and the main-series format? Start with No More Heroes III.
- Want the series’ stranger, self-aware ideas? Try Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, keeping its different structure in mind.
- Want theatrical action and a broad weapon arsenal? Choose Bayonetta, without expecting the same humor or story.
- Want to explore beyond these close matches? Grasshopper Manufacture’s official catalog includes other games such as Killer Is Dead. A shared developer is a discovery lead, not proof that another game plays or feels the same.
