The setting is Samsung’s Light performance profile. On the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, it prioritizes battery life and thermal efficiency by lowering processor clock frequencies. Android Central’s Harish Jonnalagadda reported a “decent uptick” in battery life after switching to it, but did not quantify the gain—so treat it as a useful setting to try, not a guaranteed number of extra hours.
What the Light performance profile changes
Samsung’s Light profile reduces processor clock frequencies to favor battery life and thermal efficiency over peak performance, according to Android Central’s September 14, 2026 article. It is a performance preference, not a feature that turns off ordinary phone use.
The article says Light retains the 120 Hz refresh rate and feels similarly fluid for routine interface navigation and browsing. Its reported battery improvement is the author’s experience; the article provides no measured percentage or extra-hours figure, and it does not establish that every user will see the same result.

How to turn on Light mode
Android Central places the profile in Device care. Samsung’s interface labels can vary by software version or region; if the menu names differ, use Settings search for “Performance profile” or “Light.”

- Tap Device care.
- Open Performance profile.
- Select Light.
Use Standard again if an app or task feels less responsive and you prefer peak performance. The setting is a trade-off: Light favors efficiency, while Standard is intended for general performance.

Samsung’s US product page lists a 5,000 mAh battery and claims up to 27 hours of video playback. “Up to” is a manufacturer-stated maximum for video playback, not a promise of that runtime during mixed everyday use.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra on July 22, 2026, and its UK newsroom also describes a 5,000 mAh battery.
