The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is the better fit if you want a phone that opens into a larger workspace; the Google Pixel 11 Pro XL is the more straightforward choice if you want a large conventional phone with a 5x optical telephoto camera. They are different form factors, so the right choice depends first on whether you want a foldable screen or a single-screen phone.

Specifications are manufacturer statements, not independent head-to-head test results. The Fold8’s listed rear cameras are wide and ultrawide; Samsung’s cited summary does not list a telephoto lens. Google’s “up to 120x” Pro Zoom is not 120x optical magnification: the listed optical telephoto camera is 5x. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 page and Google’s Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL specifications provide the manufacturer details.

Which phone is better for your needs?

Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 for an opening, tablet-like screen

The Fold8’s 7.6-inch inner display gives you more screen area when unfolded, which can suit reading, viewing content, or working across a larger workspace. Its 5.5-inch cover screen is the display you use while the phone is folded. This flexibility comes with a more specialized design: Samsung says the Fold8 does not support S Pen or FlexMode, so do not buy it assuming stylus compatibility or partially folded use in FlexMode.

Choose the Pixel 11 Pro XL for a conventional phone and optical telephoto

The Pixel XL keeps a single 6.8-inch screen rather than unfolding. Google specifies a 5x optical telephoto camera, alongside wide and ultrawide cameras. That makes it the clearer choice on listed optical reach; it does not establish which phone takes better photos overall. Megapixel counts alone cannot settle image quality.

Consider the weight and durability ratings

The Pixel 11 Pro XL is listed at 226 g, compared with 201 g for the Fold8. The Fold8 has an IP48 rating, while Google lists IP68 for the Pixel. These ratings are not directly interchangeable guarantees of protection in every circumstance; check each manufacturer’s current care and warranty terms for the region where you buy.

What is the price difference in the US?

Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 from $1,899.99 before trade-in on its US product page. The Google specifications page reviewed documents Pixel 11 Pro XL configurations but does not clearly expose an XL-specific US list price. That means there is no supported dollar difference to calculate from these listed prices. Do not substitute the price of the Pixel 11 Pro, a different Pixel model, or a retailer offer for the XL’s list price.

How to make a fair price comparison

  • Compare the same country and storage tier, rather than a US list price against another region’s offer.
  • Separate manufacturer list price from retailer discounts, trade-in credits, and temporary promotions.
  • Both phones have 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB options, but RAM differs by storage tier. Compare the exact configuration you would buy.
  • Check current prices on the purchase date; the published starting price and promotions can change.

Battery claims are not a head-to-head result

Samsung says the Fold8’s 4,800 mAh battery supports up to 26 hours of video playback. Google claims 30+ hours for the Pixel XL. These claims use different descriptions and conditions, so they do not show that the Pixel lasts a specific number of hours longer in everyday use. No controlled comparison between these two models is established here.

For wired charging, Google says the Pixel XL can reach about 75% in 30 minutes with a 45W USB-C PPS charger or higher, sold separately. The cited Samsung product material does not establish a Fold8 charging wattage, so a charging-speed comparison would be incomplete. Google lists Pixelsnap wireless charging as Qi2.2-certified and up to 25W.

Verdict: choose the form factor, then the configuration

Pick the Galaxy Z Fold8 if the larger unfolded display is the feature you want and you accept its foldable-specific trade-offs. Pick the Pixel 11 Pro XL if you prefer a conventional large-screen phone and value the listed 5x optical telephoto. Compare exact storage tiers and current same-market prices before deciding; the available US price information does not establish a reliable price gap.
