The Galaxy Watch6 has the stronger listed processor and more memory, while the Galaxy Watch FE is a 40mm-only option with many of the same core health and fitness features. Compare the FE with the 40mm Watch6 for the fairest size match; choose the 44mm Watch6 if you want a larger display and battery capacity. Neither model can be named the real-world battery-life winner from the available specifications alone.

What’s the difference between Galaxy Watch FE and Galaxy Watch6?

The FE and Watch6 are Wear OS watches with Samsung BioActive health sensing, but differ in size options, display, processor, memory and battery capacity. The FE comes only in 40mm. Watch6 comes in 40mm and 44mm, so its larger version has a bigger display and battery.

Specification Galaxy Watch FE (40mm) Galaxy Watch6 (40mm) Galaxy Watch6 (44mm)
Display 1.2-inch, 396×396 Super AMOLED 1.3-inch, 432×432 1.5-inch, 480×480
Processor Exynos W920, dual-core, 1.18GHz Exynos W930, dual-core, 1.4GHz
Memory 1.5GB 2GB
Storage 16GB 16GB
Battery capacity 247mAh 300mAh 425mAh
Weight without band 26.6g 28.7g 33.3g

Figures are from Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE announcement (June 13, 2024) and Galaxy Watch6 announcement (2023). Both list sapphire crystal glass. For Watch6 band sizing, Samsung Electronics America’s specification sheet lists 20mm sport bands.

Which has the better screen and fit?

The FE and the smaller Watch6 are both 40mm watches, but Watch6 gives you a larger display at the same case size: 1.3 inches compared with the FE’s 1.2 inches. The 44mm Watch6 steps up to a 1.5-inch display. That can make information easier to see, but the larger case also weighs more: Samsung lists 33.3g without the band for the 44mm model, versus 26.6g for the FE.

The FE is listed as 9.8mm deep. Watch6’s U.S. specification sheet gives 9.0mm excluding sensors and up to 12.7mm with sensors, so those figures use different measurement conventions and should not be treated as a like-for-like thickness comparison. Both watches have aluminum cases, sapphire crystal glass, and 5ATM/IP68 and MIL-STD-810H ratings. Those ratings describe specified resistance; they do not mean a watch is indestructible.

Is Galaxy Watch FE better than Watch6 for performance?

On paper, no: Watch6 has the newer Exynos W930 dual-core processor listed at 1.4GHz and 2GB of memory. The FE uses an Exynos W920 dual-core processor at 1.18GHz and 1.5GB of memory. Both have 16GB of storage. These specifications favor Watch6, but they do not establish a specific real-world speed difference for everyday tasks.

Which has better battery life?

Samsung lists a typical 247mAh battery for the FE, compared with 300mAh in the 40mm Watch6 and 425mAh in the 44mm Watch6. Samsung’s 2023 Watch6 announcement claims up to 40 hours with Always On Display off, or up to 30 hours with it on. Those are manufacturer-stated estimates, not independent test results or a guarantee. The FE specification source gives no comparable runtime claim, and actual battery life varies with use and network conditions. Capacity alone cannot show which watch lasts longer in everyday use.

Do both watches have the same health and fitness features?

There is substantial overlap. Both offer BioActive sensing, sleep coaching, personalized heart-rate zones, body composition measurements, ECG/IHRN-related features, and activity and workout tracking. Samsung’s FE announcement also describes more than 100 workouts and blood-pressure monitoring. The presence of a feature in product materials does not guarantee access in every country or with every paired phone.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic 47mm Bluetooth Smartwatch with Rotating Bezel, Fitness Tracker, Advanced Sleep Coaching - Silver (Renewed)
  • Rotating Bezel Design: Classic rotating bezel enables precise control and smooth navigation.

Samsung describes these functions as general wellness and fitness tools, not medical devices for detecting, diagnosing, treating, monitoring or managing a condition. Blood-pressure readings on the FE require calibration every four weeks with a traditional cuff, according to Samsung; they are not a substitute for clinical diagnosis or treatment. ECG and IHRN availability is limited to select markets, and the absence of an IHRN notice does not rule out disease. Do not make clinical decisions based on a watch reading; consult a qualified clinician.

Will Galaxy Watch FE or Watch6 work with your phone?

Samsung’s global launch specifications list Android 11.0 or later and more than 1.5GB of phone memory for FE; for Watch6 they list Android 10 or later and more than 1.5GB. These are baseline compatibility requirements, not a promise that every health function will work. Some Watch6 specifications also require particular Android versions, phone memory and Samsung Health app versions, while Samsung Health Monitor functions have additional device and market restrictions.

Samsung’s regional FE announcements differ on some launch-era details, including compatibility statements. Check the exact watch model and current requirements for your country and phone before buying, especially if ECG, IHRN or blood-pressure functions matter to you.

Should you get Bluetooth or LTE?

Both models are specified with Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi, NFC and satellite navigation; LTE is available only in LTE versions. Samsung says standalone LTE calling and messaging depend on an eligible paired Android phone and a qualifying carrier plan. Verify the specific watch model, carrier support and service terms in your market before paying extra for LTE.
