Samsung has not announced the Galaxy S27 Ultra or confirmed its specifications. Reports point to a possible camera redesign and changes to zoom hardware and photo processing, but they remain leaks—and some details conflict. The announced Galaxy S26 Ultra is the reliable comparison point for now.
What may change on the Galaxy S27 Ultra
The most persistent reported change is a different camera layout. Android Authority says leaked renders and a tipster suggest a redesigned camera arrangement, while the phone’s overall appearance may otherwise stay close to the S26 Ultra. The report says its display size and left-side S Pen placement could remain similar. None of those details is confirmed by Samsung.
Camera processing could look different
Android Central’s September 29, 2026 report relays tipster claims of less noise in dark scenes, warmer color tones, and improved highlight control for small, bright objects at a distance. These are possible image-processing changes, not published Samsung specifications or independently verified results.

Tom’s Guide reported on September 29, 2026 that the S27 Ultra might drop the 3× telephoto camera, which would leave a jump from the main 1× camera to 5×. Other reporting discusses different telephoto possibilities, including a larger sensor and a different optical zoom level. The reports conflict, so there is no reliable basis for stating the S27 Ultra’s lens count, sensor size, or zoom range as fact.

Battery, front camera, and S Pen claims
A Tom’s Guide rumor roundup mentions a larger battery and a 16MP front camera as possibilities. It also says major S Pen changes are not expected in the reporting it reviewed. Samsung has not confirmed these details, and the reports do not establish what any battery change would mean for real-world endurance.
What Samsung has confirmed: the Galaxy S26 Ultra baseline
Samsung’s February 25, 2026 announcement identifies the Galaxy S26 Ultra as featuring a built-in Privacy Display, a customized chipset, upgraded thermal management, and wider camera apertures. It names the processor as the customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. These are S26 Ultra features, not evidence of what Samsung will put in the S27 Ultra. Samsung also published these S26 Ultra performance comparisons with the prior generation: up to 19% CPU improvement, 39% NPU improvement, and 24% GPU improvement. These are Samsung’s stated comparisons, not independent test results.
S26 Ultra and S27 Ultra: what can be compared today
| Area | Galaxy S26 Ultra | Galaxy S27 Ultra reports |
|---|---|---|
| Camera layout | Samsung announced wider camera apertures; the announcement does not establish a future S27 layout. | A redesigned layout is suggested by leaked renders and a tipster, according to Android Authority; unconfirmed. |
| Optical zoom | The cited Samsung announcement does not establish an S27 comparison. | Reports disagree about whether 3× will remain and what telephoto hardware may replace it. No final configuration is confirmed; see Tom’s Guide’s 3× lens report and its rumor roundup. |
| Photo rendering | Samsung’s announcement describes camera hardware, but does not confirm the S27 processing rumors. | Less night-image noise, warmer tones, and better highlight handling are tipster claims relayed by Android Central; unconfirmed. |
| Display and size | Samsung announced a built-in Privacy Display for the S26 Ultra. | A similar display size and overall size are reported possibilities. The cited S27 reports do not establish whether the Privacy Display will carry over. |
| Battery | The cited S27 reporting does not provide an S26 comparison here. | A larger battery is rumored, but no S27 capacity or resulting endurance is established. |
| S Pen | Samsung’s S26 announcement is the confirmed product reference. | A report suggests the left-side placement may remain and says major changes are not expected; unconfirmed. |
Does “reinventing the Ultra” mean a foldable S27?
No such conclusion follows from the available S27 reports. Samsung’s June 4, 2025 article, “Meet the Next Chapter of Ultra”, describes an Ultra experience in a foldable form factor, including a larger unfolded screen for work, entertainment, and multitasking. That is Samsung’s broader Ultra positioning, not an announcement that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will fold.

What to make of the reports
The potential camera redesign and processing changes would affect how the S27 Ultra looks and how its photos render, but the most consequential hardware question—whether the 3× camera remains—has no settled answer in the reports. The alleged similarities in size, display, and S Pen position are also leaks, not a confirmed design brief. Samsung has not provided an S27 Ultra feature list in the sources available.
If you need a phone now, assess the Galaxy S26 Ultra using Samsung’s published specifications rather than waiting on unconfirmed S27 claims. If you are considering waiting for 2027, treat the camera and hardware reports as possibilities until Samsung announces the product and its specifications.
