No—the latest Galaxy S27 Ultra camera leak does not prove Samsung is changing everything. A September 29, 2026 report says tipster Ice Universe claims Samsung may drop the 3x telephoto camera, but that remains an unconfirmed leak, and earlier reports conflict with it. Samsung has not published S27 Ultra camera specifications in the cited coverage.
What the latest Galaxy S27 Ultra camera leak claims
On September 29, 2026, 9to5Google reported that Ice Universe claimed the Galaxy S27 Ultra would lose its 10MP 3x telephoto camera. Under that rumored setup, the zoom range would move from the main camera directly to a 5x telephoto camera. The report also showed a render with three rear cameras, but a render is not proof of final hardware. 9to5Google’s report cautions that leaks can change and that final details await Samsung’s launch.
The word “confirmed” appeared in the tipster’s claim as quoted by 9to5Google; it is not Samsung confirmation. The cited coverage does not establish a final S27 Ultra camera specification.
What camera hardware Samsung has officially specified
Samsung’s published Galaxy S26 Ultra specifications provide a firm comparison point. They do not confirm what will appear in the S27 Ultra.

How a missing 3x camera could affect zoom
If the September leak proves accurate, the S27 Ultra would no longer have a dedicated 3x telephoto camera. The rumored jump from the main camera to 5x could matter most to people who often frame subjects at an intermediate zoom level. But the leak alone cannot show how Samsung might handle that range through cropping, image processing, or other camera hardware; the cited reports do not establish those details.

Nor does removing a 3x module automatically mean worse or better photos. There are no S27 Ultra hands-on tests or measured image results in the cited coverage to judge image quality, detail, low-light performance, or practical zoom results.

Alleged image-processing changes
Android Central reported on September 29, 2026, that Ice Universe also claimed the S27 Ultra may produce cleaner images in dark scenes, use warmer color tones, and control highlights on small, bright objects more effectively. Those are claims about potential processing behavior, not test results or Samsung-confirmed features. Android Central’s report attributes the claims to the tipster.

Earlier reports describe a different camera setup
The rumor trail has not been consistent. A July 24, 2026 SamMobile report described a leak alleging two telephoto cameras, including a 50MP 5x module and a second Sony telephoto, while noting that most other reports then suggested only one telephoto camera. That differs from the September claim that the phone would move directly from the main camera to 5x. The reports do not provide enough evidence to reconcile the competing configurations. SamMobile’s report lays out that earlier claim and its caveat.
Another early rumor, reported by Digital Camera World on January 12, 2026, attributed to Ice Universe a possible 200MP ISOCELL HP6 primary sensor measuring 1/1.3 inch, alongside unspecified additional technologies. That is an unverified claim from months before the September reports, not a confirmed S27 specification. Digital Camera World’s January report also urged caution because the phone’s launch was still distant.

Should you wait for the S27 Ultra or consider the S26 Ultra?
For now, make a buying decision based on the phone you can evaluate today, rather than treating the S27 leaks as a specification sheet. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the current comparison device with official camera specifications. If its dedicated 3x camera matters to your photography, the latest S27 rumor is a reason to wait for confirmed specifications or hands-on testing—not proof that the next model will lack a useful intermediate zoom in practice.
If you do not need to buy immediately, waiting for Samsung to announce the S27 Ultra would replace speculation with official details. The cited coverage does not establish a final S27 launch configuration, camera performance, or real-world image quality.
