The reports are anecdotal: they do not establish how many owners are affected or prove a single cause. Samsung has said it is examining a related display complaint, but that statement does not confirm a cause or a fix for eye strain.
What Galaxy S26 Ultra owners are reporting
Early owners have described discomfort ranging from eye strain and headaches to dizziness, nausea, visual fatigue and text that looks fuzzy. Coverage by Android Authority and TechRadar connects many of the reports to the Privacy Display or to perceived text and image clarity. TechRadar also noted that the problem does not affect everyone and that its reviewer did not experience it.
These are user reports, not a measured estimate of prevalence. The available coverage does not establish what percentage of owners have symptoms, whether complaints are concentrated in a particular production batch, or whether all reports share the same cause. It is therefore more accurate to describe this as an unresolved issue some users report, rather than evidence that every Galaxy S26 Ultra is defective.
What Samsung has said—and what it has not
In July 2026 coverage of a related red-tint display complaint, SamMobile quoted a Samsung company official as saying, “We are currently examining the matter internally to confirm the cause.” That is evidence Samsung was investigating that display complaint. It is not a public finding that eye strain has one established cause, nor does it announce a specific remedy for people experiencing it.

Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report lists the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 6.9-inch Quad HD+ display at 3120×1440 and identifies Privacy Display as a new feature. Those specifications describe the screen; they do not establish why some people report discomfort.
Why the cause is still uncertain
PWM dimming has been raised as one possible explanation in coverage by Android Authority, but it has not been confirmed as the cause. Other possibilities discussed include Privacy Display optics, perceived text clarity, software behavior and differences in individual sensitivity. The available reports do not establish which, if any, explains a particular person’s symptoms.

Anecdotal complaints also cannot show whether the same settings or conditions trigger symptoms for different users. A person may notice a difference when Privacy Display is enabled, for example, without that observation proving the feature is the cause for all affected owners.
What to try if the display bothers your eyes
Compare Privacy Display on and off
If Privacy Display is enabled, compare the screen with it on and off while keeping other conditions as similar as possible: use the same app, content, brightness and viewing environment. Note whether text clarity or comfort changes. This is a practical check, not a controlled diagnosis; if symptoms persist, do not assume that changing this setting will resolve them.

Try Eye comfort shield
The Galaxy S26 device guide describes Eye comfort shield, including an Adaptive option, and says the feature may help users sleep better and reduce eye strain. It is a setting worth trying, not a guaranteed cure. The guide’s description does not establish that it addresses the complaints reported by S26 Ultra owners.
Keep a short record and contact Samsung
Write down when symptoms occur and the display settings and usage conditions at the time, including whether Privacy Display and Eye comfort shield were enabled. If the discomfort continues, contact Samsung support with those details and ask about the available support options for your device.

Check return or exchange terms
If the phone is still within the seller’s or carrier’s applicable return or exchange window, check its terms promptly. Availability and deadlines depend on where and how the device was purchased; the reports do not establish a special Samsung-wide return policy for this issue.
