Choose the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if you want a larger screen, built-in S Pen, Samsung DeX, or more optical-zoom options. Choose the iPhone 17 Pro if you prefer iOS or want a smaller phone footprint; a January 2026 camera comparison also praised its video stabilization and lens transitions in the samples tested. Neither is a universal winner: camera rendering, battery life, support comparisons, and current value depend on the evidence and your circumstances.
At a glance: which one fits your priorities?
| Your priority | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Large display | Galaxy S25 Ultra | Samsung lists a 6.9-inch-class QHD+ display with adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz in its US business specification sheet. |
| Smaller display footprint | iPhone 17 Pro | Apple lists a 6.27-inch diagonal using a standard-rectangle measurement; rounded corners reduce the actual viewable area. |
| Stylus notes or drawing | Galaxy S25 Ultra | Samsung lists S Pen support. |
| Multiple optical zoom options | Galaxy S25 Ultra | Samsung’s India specifications list 3x and 5x optical zoom in a four-camera rear system. |
| iOS | iPhone 17 Pro | It is the iOS option; whether that is an advantage depends on your devices and services. |
| Video stabilization in the cited comparison | iPhone 17 Pro | TechRadar reviewer Alex Walker-Todd described smooth stabilization and natural transitions between lenses in the tested samples. |
Specifications cited here come from different regional materials: Samsung’s display and update figures are from a US business sheet, while its camera and battery figures are from an India product page. Confirm the local model before buying.
Which phone has the better display?
Galaxy S25 Ultra: more room for content
Samsung’s US business sheet specifies a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz. Its larger screen is the clearer fit for people who read, watch video, use split-screen apps, or write with the S Pen on the phone itself. These dimensions do not by themselves establish that one display looks better; brightness, color preferences, and use conditions also matter.
iPhone 17 Pro: a more compact display area
Apple gives the iPhone 17 Pro a 6.27-inch diagonal measured as a standard rectangle. Apple notes that the actual viewable area is smaller because the display has rounded corners. If you want a less expansive screen footprint than the Ultra, the iPhone is the more suitable choice in this pairing.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
How do their cameras compare?
Galaxy S25 Ultra: zoom hardware flexibility
Samsung’s India specifications list rear cameras with 200 MP, 50 MP, 50 MP, and 10 MP resolutions, plus 3x and 5x optical zoom options. That gives the Ultra a broad set of camera hardware to work with, especially when you want dedicated telephoto reach. Megapixel counts and zoom specifications describe hardware, not a guarantee that every photo will look better.
iPhone 17 Pro: video is a notable strength in one comparison
TechRadar’s Alex Walker-Todd, in a camera comparison published January 3, 2026, reported dependable 4K/60 fps capture, smooth stabilization, and natural transitions between lenses in the iPhone video samples tested. Those are reviewer observations from that comparison, not a universal benchmark or a promise about every scene.

Photo results depend on scene and rendering
The same TechRadar comparison found scene-specific differences: Samsung’s processing appeared brighter and more saturated in some examples, while each phone showed different strengths across the tests. Treat those samples as useful illustrations of rendering differences, not as a comprehensive lab ranking. If still photos matter most, compare sample images of the subjects and lighting you typically shoot rather than choosing by megapixels alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDoes the S Pen or ecosystem decide it?
The Galaxy S25 Ultra supports the S Pen and Samsung DeX, according to Samsung’s specifications. Those features make it the more practical fit if you expect to write or mark up content directly on the phone, or use DeX as part of your workflow.

The iPhone 17 Pro runs iOS. An ecosystem advantage is personal: consider which phone works more naturally with the computers, tablets, watches, services, and accessories you already use. Without knowing that setup, there is no basis to declare one platform the better ecosystem overall.
What can you conclude about battery life and software support?
Battery: published figures are not a head-to-head test
Samsung’s India specifications state a typical battery capacity of 5000 mAh and up to 31 hours of video playback. The playback number is a manufacturer specification, not a matched independent test against the iPhone 17 Pro. Battery capacity alone cannot establish which phone lasts longer in your daily mix of calls, apps, camera use, and connectivity.

Software support: a published Samsung commitment, but no matched duration
Samsung’s US business specification sheet states seven years of OS and security updates for the Galaxy S25 series. The available Apple specification material does not establish a comparable guaranteed support duration for the iPhone 17 Pro, so the evidence here cannot name a support-duration winner.

Quick Recap
Which should you buy?
- Buy the Galaxy S25 Ultra if a large display, S Pen input, DeX, or its listed 3x and 5x optical-zoom hardware is central to how you use a phone.
- Buy the iPhone 17 Pro if you are committed to iOS or prioritize a smaller display footprint. Its video showing in the cited comparison is an additional point in its favor if those tested qualities match what you value.
- Compare camera samples before choosing if still-photo quality is your deciding factor: the comparison reports scene-dependent processing differences rather than a single across-the-board winner.
