The Xiaomi REDMI Note 17 5G has the larger display and higher stated battery capacity; the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G specifies IP67 protection and a longer, clearly stated software-update commitment. There is no fair single price difference to quote without choosing a country and matching storage configurations: the available price figures are for different markets and dates.

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not results from hands-on testing. Xiaomi’s listed details come from its Italy page; variants, network bands, and package contents may differ elsewhere. Samsung’s cited storage options are from its US newsroom.
Which phone has the larger display?
The REDMI Note 17 5G has the larger listed screen: Xiaomi specifies a 6.99-inch AMOLED panel, compared with Samsung’s 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display. Both specifications list a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, though Xiaomi’s page says “up to” 120 Hz. Screen size and refresh rate alone do not establish which display looks better; brightness, color, and viewing conditions matter too.
Which phone has the bigger battery?
Xiaomi lists a 7,700 mAh typical-capacity battery for the REDMI Note 17 5G; Samsung lists 5,000 mAh typical capacity for the Galaxy A56 5G. The Redmi’s stated capacity is higher, but the figures do not prove how long either phone lasts between charges. Runtime also depends on factors such as display use, software, signal strength, and workload.

Charging and what comes in the box
Xiaomi’s Italy specification page lists 45 W turbo charging and says a power adapter is not included, recommending a compatible Xiaomi 45 W adapter that supports PD charging. Box contents can vary by market, so check the local listing before assuming a charger is supplied. The cited Samsung sources do not establish a comparable charging figure or package contents.
How do the cameras and durability compare?
Both manufacturers list a 50 MP main camera. Samsung also specifies optical image stabilization on the A56 5G; Xiaomi’s cited Italy page does not state stabilization for the REDMI Note 17 5G. Those hardware details do not establish real-world photo quality, so they are not enough to declare a camera winner.

Samsung lists an IP67 rating for the Galaxy A56 5G. The cited Xiaomi Italy specification page does not state an IP rating for the REDMI Note 17 5G. This is a difference in the available specifications, not proof that the Redmi has no protection; check the precise regional model’s documentation before relying on a rating.

Samsung says the Galaxy A56 5G supports up to six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates. The cited Xiaomi Italy page does not state an equivalent update commitment for the REDMI Note 17 5G, so these sources do not allow a like-for-like support-duration comparison. If long-term updates are decisive, verify Xiaomi’s commitment for the exact regional model before buying.

What is the price difference?
A direct difference is not established by the available prices because they refer to different countries, currencies, configurations, and dates. Samsung’s US newsroom stated a $499.99 starting price for the Galaxy A56 5G when available online and through retailers; that is a US price statement, not a verified current offer. For Spain, Cinco Días/Smartlife reported REDMI Note 17 5G launch prices on September 17, 2026, of €349.99 for 6/128 GB, €379.99 for 6/256 GB, and €399.99 for 8/256 GB. Those are reported Spanish launch prices, not verified current retail prices.
Do not subtract or currency-convert these figures to infer which phone is cheaper in your market. For a meaningful comparison, check current local prices for the same storage tier, including taxes, seller, and any carrier conditions.

Which one should you choose?
- Consider the Galaxy A56 5G if IP67 is important or you value Samsung’s stated OS-upgrade and security-update commitment. Its listed main camera also specifies optical image stabilization.
- Consider the REDMI Note 17 5G if the larger listed screen or higher stated battery capacity better fits your priorities, or if you need the expandable storage specified on Xiaomi’s Italy page.
- Compare local listings before deciding if price, network compatibility, included accessories, or an exact memory configuration is the deciding factor; regional specifications and availability can differ.
The specifications identify different priorities, not an overall winner: they do not establish battery runtime, camera performance, display quality, or which phone is better value at today’s local prices.
