Short answer: Opera can capture what is visible without an extension, but its documented “Capture Full Screen” command means the current viewport—not the entire page from top to bottom. Use Save page as PDF for a complete page in a document, or install a current Opera Add-ons extension when you specifically need the whole page as an image. The safest workflow is to try Opera Snapshot first, then evaluate an extension’s output formats, long-page behavior and permissions.
What “full page” means in Opera
Opera uses similar language for two different results. Its help documentation says you can choose “Capture Full Screen” for “the entire page currently visible on your screen,” also called the viewport, or choose “Save page as PDF” to save “the full page, from top to bottom, as a PDF.” Read literally, the built-in full-screen screenshot is a viewport image, while the built-in whole-document option is PDF.
That distinction determines whether you need an extension:
- Visible area, annotations or clipboard: Opera Snapshot is normally enough.
- Entire page as a PDF: use Opera’s Save page as PDF command.
- Entire page as PNG, JPEG or another image: compare a current full-page extension listing and install one only if its permissions and exports fit your needs.

Use Opera Snapshot without an extension
Open Snapshot
- Open the page in Opera.
- On Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+Shift+5. On macOS, press Command+Shift+2.
- Alternatively, select the camera icon in Opera’s toolbar if it is shown.
Snapshot opens capture controls. Depending on the control you choose, you can capture the visible screen or select an area, then use the editor for basic markup and sharing actions. This is the right first step when the recipient only needs what is currently visible.
When Snapshot is not a full-page image
Do not treat “Capture Full Screen” as an automatically stitched image of a long article. Opera’s own wording limits it to the visible viewport. If the page must be preserved from top to bottom and a PDF is acceptable, use the browser menu and choose Save page as PDF. PDF output is often preferable for printing, archiving or sending a document, but it is not a PNG or JPEG screenshot.
How to save the entire page as a PDF
- Load the page and wait for its visible content to finish rendering.
- Open Opera’s main menu and choose the print command (the exact menu label can vary by release).
- In the print destination dialog, select Save as PDF.
- Review paper size, orientation, margins and page preview, then save the file.
This method follows Opera Help’s documented whole-page path. It does not guarantee that every interactive widget, embedded frame or lazy-loaded image will appear exactly as it does on screen; review the PDF before distributing it.
Full-page image extensions in Opera Add-ons
Use an extension when the deliverable is one tall image or when you need selection tools and image-oriented exports that PDF printing does not provide. Store metadata can change, so check the current listing immediately before installation.

The Page Screenshot listing describes vertical scrolling through a long page, saving the result to Opera’s download location, and controls for image format and quality. The listing notes two practical limits: tabs that were already open may need to be reloaded, and wide pages are not captured horizontally. Its displayed version was 0.1.5, last updated October 17, 2022, when the listing was recorded; verify the current version and permissions in Opera Add-ons.
Capture Webpage Screenshot — FireShot
The FireShot listing describes full-page, visible-page and selection captures, with PDF, PNG and JPEG output plus annotation and editing features. The listing displayed version 1.11.25, last updated February 23, 2023, at the time of the supplied information. These are store listing claims, not independent compatibility tests.
FireShot’s listing requests access to data on all websites, access to tabs and browsing activity, and the ability to exchange messages with programs outside Opera. Its privacy-policy page says settings are stored locally and that the extension does not send personal information. That is the publisher’s statement, not independent verification. Inspect the permission prompt and current policy for the exact version you install.

Opera’s extension guidance recommends caution with third-party Chrome extensions. Its documentation explains that activeTab is temporary access granted when you invoke an extension, while pageCapture is a separate permission. A reliable capture checklist
- Reload a tab opened before installing an extension when the listing says this is required.
- Scroll through the page once if important images load lazily, then capture.
- Close cookie dialogs, newsletter popups and chat panels if they obscure content.
- For very wide pages, confirm whether the tool stitches horizontally; Page Screenshot’s listing says it does not.
- Check the downloaded file and its dimensions before deleting the source page.
- For sensitive pages, avoid extensions requesting broader access than the task requires.
Troubleshooting
The result only shows the screen area
You likely used Snapshot’s “Capture Full Screen,” which Opera defines as the viewport. Use Save page as PDF for a complete document, or install an image-oriented full-page extension.
The extension captures a blank or partial page
Reload the tab, wait for scripts and images to finish, and retry. Some pages use lazy loading, embedded frames or access controls that an extension may not reproduce. The researched listings do not establish universal compatibility, so inspect the output rather than assuming success.
The bottom of a long page is missing
Look for a full-page mode rather than visible-page mode. Remove sticky overlays temporarily, allow the extension to scroll, and check whether the page is unusually wide. Page Screenshot specifically states that wide pages are not captured horizontally.
Images or charts are absent
Scroll through the page before capture to trigger lazy loading. If content appears only after interaction, use the page’s own export or print path where available.
The extension asks for more access than expected
Stop and read the permission text. FireShot’s listing, for example, requests access to data on all websites and tabs/browsing activity. Compare that access with your trust requirements and review the current publisher policy before proceeding.

The PDF layout is wrong
Change paper size, orientation and margins in print preview, then inspect page breaks. A PDF is a paginated document, not a single continuous image.

Privacy and maintenance considerations
An extension runs inside your browser and may inspect pages according to its declared permissions. Recheck permissions after updates, remove tools you no longer use, and avoid capturing confidential pages to a service or extension unless your policy allows it. Marketplace ratings and download counters are volatile and are not proof of capture quality or current maintenance.
