The right free web hosting depends on what you are building: a static site made from files, a PHP site that needs a database, or a site you want to create in a visual editor. These 13 options cover all three, but their free plans are not interchangeable—and the available evidence does not support a reliable 1-to-13 ranking or a promise that every current limit is unchanged.
Use the shortlist by project type, then check the provider’s current terms before signing up. Free tiers can restrict storage, traffic, builds, features, domains, or commercial use.
Choose the kind of hosting your site needs
Start with the site, not the provider name. A static site serves files such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images. Traditional hosting is needed when your site runs server-side code such as PHP or depends on a database. A hosted website builder combines an editor and hosting, so you create pages inside the provider’s system rather than deploying a project yourself.
- Static site: Consider GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, or Vercel if your site can be published as static files and you are comfortable with the relevant workflow.
- PHP or database site: InfinityFree is a candidate for projects that need PHP and MySQL.
- Visual editor: Wix, WordPress.com, SITE123, and Jimdo are hosted-builder candidates for people who want to make a site inside an editor.
The remaining candidates—x10Hosting, GoogieHost, AwardSpace, and FreeHosting.com—also appear in free-hosting roundups, but the available evidence here does not establish their current quotas or support terms. Treat them as options to investigate, not verified recommendations.
13 free hosting platforms to consider
This is a use-case shortlist, not a tested ranking. GitHub Pages and InfinityFree have provider documentation cited below for specific capabilities and limits. For the other services, check the provider’s current plan details directly: available comparison coverage is secondary and does not establish today’s exact terms.
Static-site and deployment services
- GitHub Pages: A fit for static sites and learners willing to use a repository workflow. GitHub says GitHub Free supports Pages from public repositories. Its current Pages documentation sets a 1 GB maximum published site size, a soft bandwidth limit of 100 GB per month, and a soft build limit of 10 per hour. These are GitHub’s service limits, not independent performance measurements. GitHub also says Pages is not intended or allowed as free hosting for an online business, e-commerce site, or site primarily facilitating commercial transactions or commercial SaaS. Do not use it for those purposes. GitHub Pages limits.
- Cloudflare Pages: A static-site deployment candidate. Confirm current plan terms, framework support, quotas, and commercial-use rules with Cloudflare before choosing it; the cited comparison coverage does not establish those details. Secondary comparison.
- Netlify: A static deployment candidate. Verify the current free plan, usage limits, and commercial terms with Netlify; no current quota is established by the available evidence. Secondary comparison.
- Vercel: A static-site and deployment candidate. Check Vercel’s current plan, framework support, and commercial terms directly; the cited comparison does not establish a current quota. Secondary comparison.
Traditional hosting and PHP/database candidate
- InfinityFree: Consider it if you want to learn traditional hosting with PHP and MySQL or try WordPress. InfinityFree says it offers WordPress installation through Softaculous, FTP and file-manager uploads, and free subdomains; a custom domain must be registered elsewhere. Its page describes the hosting as permanently free, but that is a provider claim, not independent evidence of uptime or performance. Confirm its current acceptable-use and resource limits before relying on it. InfinityFree’s free hosting page.
Hosted website builders
These services bundle a visual editor with hosting. That can remove the need to manage a deployment workflow, but free plans may impose branding, domain, storage, bandwidth, or customization limits. The cited builder roundup is secondary, so verify the current terms with each provider.

- Wix: Hosted visual-builder candidate. Check the current free-plan branding, domain, and feature restrictions. Builder comparison.
- WordPress.com: Hosted-builder candidate. Check the current free-plan domain, branding, and customization restrictions; this is a hosted service, not a claim about every WordPress installation. Builder comparison.
- SITE123: Hosted visual-builder candidate. Confirm current branding, domain, and plan features before building a site there. Builder comparison.
- Jimdo: Hosted visual-builder candidate. Verify current free-plan restrictions and features with the provider. Builder comparison.
Additional free-hosting candidates to verify
The following services are named in a 2026 free-hosting roundup, but the evidence available here does not establish their current resource limits, support quality, or suitability for a particular project. Review their terms and capabilities directly before uploading a site.

How to compare free plans before committing
Use the same checklist for each provider. A label such as “free hosting” does not tell you whether a service can run your site or what you will need to pay for later.
- Site type: Confirm whether the service supports only static files or also provides the server-side runtime and database your project needs.
- Publishing workflow: Check whether you upload files, connect a repository, or build inside a hosted editor. Pick the method you can maintain.
- Domain: Find out whether you can use a custom domain on the free plan. Domain registration may be a separate cost; InfinityFree, for example, says custom domains must be registered elsewhere.
- Limits: Look for published storage, bandwidth or traffic, build frequency, file sizes, and request limits. Note how each limit is measured and what happens when you exceed it.
- Branding and features: For builders, check for provider branding, restricted customization, or features that require an upgrade.
- Commercial use: Read acceptable-use terms before putting a business, store, or paid service online. GitHub Pages has explicit restrictions for certain commercial uses.
- Exit path: Find out whether you can export your site files and what will need to change if you outgrow the plan. A builder’s editing system may not transfer in the same way as standalone HTML files.
Pick a starting point based on your project
- Learning HTML with a small public project: GitHub Pages is a documented option if you can work with a repository, your site is static, and its commercial-use rules fit your project.
- Trying PHP, MySQL, or WordPress: Investigate InfinityFree’s stated support for these tools and check its current limits before installing anything important.
- Building without managing files or deployment: Compare Wix, WordPress.com, SITE123, and Jimdo as hosted editors, paying particular attention to branding and domain rules.
- Using a deployment platform beyond GitHub Pages: Compare Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, and Vercel against your framework and expected usage, using each provider’s current plan documentation.
Do not put a business-critical site on a free tier solely because it is available at no cost. The evidence here does not establish uninterrupted uptime, support response times, or future availability for these services. Free-plan terms can change, so confirm them again before publishing.
