You can add a New Year overlay to an OBS scene by using a provider’s browser-based overlay URL or by importing a downloaded graphic. First confirm that the specific design is free and that its license permits your intended use: available overlay galleries do not guarantee that a New Year design is currently free. Then add it to the scene, size it for your stream canvas, and preview it before going live.
Where to find a free New Year stream overlay
Start with an overlay gallery or asset library and check the exact design’s current price and terms before using it. StreamElements documents a gallery of ready-to-go overlay assets, while OWN3D says it offers some free assets. Neither statement confirms that a particular New Year-themed design is free right now, so verify the item itself.

- Delivery: A browser URL is added as a Browser source; a downloaded image or animation must be added using an OBS source appropriate to that file.
Stream overlays are visual elements layered over a broadcast; they can include elements such as alerts, labels, goals, or chat. StreamElements describes its overlays as rendered in broadcast software through a browser source. See its overlay overview.
How to add a StreamElements overlay to OBS
- Choose and open the overlay. In StreamElements, select a design in the gallery and open it in the dashboard or editor. Review its terms before using it.
- Copy the overlay URL. Copy the URL from the dashboard or editor, as described in StreamElements’ OBS setup guide.
- Open the target scene in OBS. Select the scene where the New Year graphics should appear.
- Add a Browser source. In the Sources panel, add a Browser source and create a new source when prompted.
- Paste the URL. In the source properties, paste the overlay URL into the URL field.
- Set the dimensions and position. Use dimensions that suit your stream canvas, then position the overlay in the scene. StreamElements recommends matching the stream resolution; a smaller overlay can be useful if you plan to reposition it in the broadcasting software. Its editor setup guide covers sizing.
- Preview the scene. Check that the design is visible, positioned correctly, and does not cover important content before you start the broadcast.
Fix sizing or update problems
The overlay is the wrong size or position
Check that the Browser source dimensions suit your stream canvas. If the full-size design is difficult to place, try a smaller overlay and reposition it in OBS. Preview the whole scene so titles, alerts, or other important content remain visible.

The design is not actually free or its terms are unclear
Return to the asset listing and confirm the current price and the license for that exact design. If the terms do not establish that your intended use is allowed, choose another asset or ask its provider before broadcasting or redistributing it.
