To find a free Christmas overlay for a YouTube livestream, browse Streamlabs’ holiday collections, check that the specific design is free, then install it through Streamlabs Desktop or add its image files as sources in OBS. A holiday collection is a place to discover designs, not a guarantee that every item is free or cleared for commercial use.
Where to find free Christmas overlays
Start with the Streamlabs Overlay and Widget Theme Library. Its collections include holiday designs, and Streamlabs says many overlays and widget themes are free. The full library is included with Streamlabs Ultra, while some animated overlays and widget themes require Ultra. Check the access status on the individual Christmas design before you build your scene.

Check the overlay’s terms before using it
Free access to a design does not necessarily mean unrestricted reuse. The sources do not establish one universal license for every Christmas overlay, so read the selected item’s own access and usage terms—especially if you monetize your YouTube content or use the artwork for a business.

OBS itself is free for any use, including commercial use, according to the OBS Project Help Portal. That statement concerns OBS software, not third-party overlay artwork; it does not grant a license to graphics you add to OBS.
Add a Christmas overlay in Streamlabs Desktop
- Open the Streamlabs library, choose a Christmas design, and verify its access status and usage terms.
- Select Select and Install, choose the components you want, and confirm the installation in Streamlabs Desktop.
- Open the relevant scene in your scene collection and check that the overlay appears in the correct position and at the intended size.
- Preview the scene before going live. Confirm the artwork does not cover important content such as your game, camera, or on-screen text.
Streamlabs’ overlay setup guide also describes importing an .overlay file through Settings → Scene Collections → Import Overlay File. After importing, check the included scenes and sources in the app.

Add the overlay in OBS
Streamlabs documents two routes for using its overlays with OBS: its OBS plugin, or a scene collection import without the plugin. The vendor’s Plugin for OBS Guide says the plugin is free to download and use; some features and premium themes are Ultra benefits. Check the chosen theme’s access requirements rather than assuming the plugin makes every design free.

Use the plugin or import a scene collection
- Choose a Christmas overlay in the Streamlabs library and check its price or subscription requirement.
- Follow Streamlabs’ current setup guide for the plugin route, or import the supplied scene collection if you are not using the plugin.
- In OBS, open the imported scene and inspect its sources. Adjust the overlay’s order, scale, and placement in the canvas if needed.
- Preview the scene and verify it looks right at your stream’s output size before starting the YouTube broadcast.
Build a scene from image files
- Download or extract the image files supplied with the overlay, and check the artwork’s usage terms.
- In OBS, select the scene to decorate, then add the relevant image files as sources.
- Arrange the sources so the overlay sits above the video or other content it is meant to frame; resize and position it on the canvas.
- Repeat for other scenes as needed, such as Starting Soon, Live, and BRB, then preview each scene.
Streamlabs’ setup guide describes adding image files as scene sources and checking their order, scale, and placement. The exact result depends on the files included with the design and how you arrange your scene.

Choose a design that fits your stream
Before installing, compare candidate designs on practical details rather than assuming one is best: whether it works with your software and installation route, whether the specific theme is free, which scene components or widgets it includes, and what its terms allow. The available sources do not independently rank Christmas overlays for appearance or performance.
- Keep the scene readable: avoid a frame or decoration that hides the content viewers came to see.
- Check included components: distinguish static artwork from designs that include alerts or widgets, and confirm whether those components are available on your plan.
- Confirm every scene: an overlay installed into one scene may not automatically appear in your other scenes.
