Bootstrap offers a solid starting point for free accordion designs, but the available source material supports a handful of useful patterns—not a verified list of 25 distinct demos. The strongest options to explore are a standard FAQ accordion, a flush layout, an always-open panel group, a horizontal card-style adaptation, and an accordion-based navigation menu. Use Bootstrap’s documentation for implementation details, then assess each design for accessibility, behavior, and mobile fit before adapting it.
What a Bootstrap accordion does
Bootstrap’s accordion is built on its Collapse JavaScript plugin. It displays content in vertically stacked panels that expand and collapse, making it useful when readers need access to supporting information without seeing every section at once. Bootstrap’s v5.3 accordion documentation includes standard, flush, and always-open variants, along with instructions for showing a panel expanded when the page loads.
These patterns are starting points rather than a catalog of 25 confirmed examples. The sources support several distinct design directions, but do not establish 25 unique, free, available, Bootstrap-compatible demos or verify their licenses. Treat the examples below as categories to explore and adapt, not as a tested or licensed resource list.
Free Bootstrap accordion designs to consider
FAQ accordion
A Bootstrap FAQ accordion groups answers under question headings and lets visitors open the topics they need. It can make a long FAQ easier to scan, especially when each answer is substantial. MDBootstrap describes FAQ sections using accordion or collapse patterns, and a community example shows a Bootstrap 5.3 FAQ treatment with flush styling and an icon. See MDBootstrap’s FAQ examples and the community FAQ example.

Flush accordion
Bootstrap’s .accordion-flush variant removes the component’s borders and rounded corners to create an edge-to-edge presentation. It can suit sections that need to blend into the surrounding page rather than appear as separate cards. The official accordion documentation shows how to use the variant.
Always-open panels
By default, an accordion can be configured so opening one panel closes another. Bootstrap documents that omitting data-bs-parent allows multiple panels to remain open. That behavior can be useful for comparison or reference content when readers may want to view several answers at once. Choose the behavior intentionally: a single-open group is more compact, while multiple-open panels preserve context.
Horizontal card-style accordion
A horizontal accordion changes the familiar vertical stack into cards that expand across the row. MDBootstrap’s example uses CSS for the card appearance and JavaScript to change it, so this is an adapted pattern—not Bootstrap’s standard vertically collapsing accordion. See MDBootstrap’s horizontal accordion example. Test the layout at narrow widths, where a horizontal interaction may need to become a vertical stack.

Accordion navigation menu
An accordion menu can group navigation links into expandable categories, keeping a compact menu organized. MDBootstrap presents this as a way to structure navigation; its usefulness depends on clear group labels and a predictable focus order. Review MDBootstrap’s accordion menu example as a design reference.

How to choose a pattern
Compare designs by their behavior and fit, not only by color or animation. Use these checks when reviewing an example or building your own:
- Keyboard behavior and focus order: Confirm users can reach and operate controls in a sensible sequence.
- Open-panel rule: Decide whether opening a panel should close its siblings or allow several to stay expanded.
- Initial state: Determine whether a panel should start open, and whether that choice helps users understand the content.
- Motion: Check how the animation responds to reduced-motion preferences.
- Labels and state: Make each control’s purpose clear and ensure its expanded or collapsed state is conveyed.
- Mobile fit: Check text wrapping, tap targets, and whether horizontal layouts remain usable on small screens.
- Implementation cost: Note how much custom CSS or JavaScript a design adds beyond Bootstrap’s component.
These are evaluation criteria, not claims that the linked demos have been tested.

Implementing and customizing the component
Start with Bootstrap’s v5.3 accordion guide for markup, initial expanded panels, the flush variant, and always-open behavior. The accordion uses the Collapse plugin, so its interaction depends on Bootstrap’s JavaScript being included as required by the setup you use.

The documentation also notes: “The animation effect of this component is dependent on the prefers-reduced-motion media query.” This matters when reviewing the motion behavior of an accordion design.

Accessibility: check keyboard interactions, not just ARIA attributes
Bootstrap’s Collapse documentation cautions that its current implementation does not include the optional keyboard interactions described in the WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices Guide accordion pattern; developers who need those interactions must add them with custom JavaScript. This is a statement about Bootstrap’s implementation, not a claim that all accordions lack keyboard access. Check the actual controls’ focus and operation, and use the W3C WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices Guide accordion example as an accessibility reference.
For a FAQ, navigation menu, or other design, confirm that each control has an understandable label and that users can identify whether its panel is expanded. Do not assume a visually polished third-party example supplies every interaction your project needs.
What the “25 examples” claim can—and cannot—mean
The available sources establish several useful Bootstrap accordion patterns and link to documentation and third-party examples. They do not verify 25 distinct designs, whether every example remains available or is free to use, compatibility with a particular Bootstrap release, or the license terms for third-party material. Confirm those details directly with each source before adopting or redistributing an example. For implementation behavior, Bootstrap’s own documentation is the most reliable reference; use third-party examples as inspiration.
