For a build that must retain two optical drives, both cases qualify on the published specifications. The Fractal Design Pop Silent is the better-documented option for sound-dampening construction and offers substantially more graphics-card clearance. The Antec VSK4000B-U3 provides one additional external 5.25-inch bay and a smaller chassis, but its GPU clearance depends on whether the hard-drive bracket remains installed. Confirm the exact Antec suffix, case revision and every component measurement before buying.

Which case is safer for two optical drives?
Fractal Pop Silent: exactly two external bays
Fractal lists two 5.25-inch bays, matching the stated requirement without leaving a spare bay. It also lists three combined 3.5/2.5-inch drive positions and four dedicated 2.5-inch mounts. Measure each optical drive, including its bezel and rear cabling, before installation.
Antec VSK4000B-U3: one extra bay
The VSK4000B-U3 lists three external 5.25-inch bays, plus an external floppy bay and five internal 3.5-inch hard-drive bays. The extra optical bay may be useful for a fan controller, hot-swap module or future expansion, but verify that the listing you are considering is actually the U3 model. “VSK4000B” listings can represent different suffixes or revisions.
#1 Best Overall
- Accommodates ATX / mATX / Mini ITX Motherboards
- Vividly colored motherboard plate, drive trays and exterior accents (Pop Air RGB TG Cyan/Magenta/Green/Orange Core)
- Easily mounted tempered glass side panel lets you showcase your components (TG models only)
- Up to three HDDs and six SSDs (or two HDDs and five SSDs with one optical bay in use)
- Comes with three of our 120 mm Aspect 12 RGB (Pop Air RGB TG) fans (and supports two more for a total of five)
Graphics-card and component clearance
Pop Silent has the larger stated GPU allowance
Fractal lists graphics cards up to 380 mm long. That gives considerably more margin for modern cards, front-mounted radiators or unusual power-connector arrangements, although the published figure still needs to be checked against your exact front-drive layout.
Antec clearance changes with the HDD bracket
Antec lists up to 260 mm with the HDD bracket installed and up to 340 mm with the bracket removed. Measure your card from its mounting bracket to the furthest obstruction, including any front-mounted connector or adapter. If the bracket is needed for your storage plan, use the 260 mm figure rather than assuming the larger number.
Rank #2
- Accommodates E-ATX (up to 280 mm) / ATX / mATX / Mini ITX Motherboards
- Easily mounted tempered glass side panel lets you showcase your components
- Up to four HDDs and six SSDs (or three HDDs and five SSDs with one optical bay in use)
- Comes with four of our 120 mm Aspect RGB fans (and supports two more for a total of six)
- Holds radiators up to 360 mm in the front, 280 mm in the top and 140 mm in the rear
CPU cooler and PSU checks
The Pop Silent specifies a 170 mm maximum CPU-cooler height and an ATX power supply up to 170 mm long. The captured VSK4000B-U3 specification does not state either a CPU-cooler-height limit or a PSU maximum length, so obtain the manual or seller’s dimensional data for the precise revision before selecting a tower cooler or long modular PSU. Cable-bend room can be tighter than the bare component length.
Cooling, airflow and noise expectations
What Fractal actually claims
The Pop Silent uses a closed front and top, bitumen-lined side panels and foam for its sound-focused construction. Fractal lists two front fan positions supporting 120/140 mm fans and one rear 120 mm position, with two front Aspect 12 fans and one rear Aspect 12 fan listed as included. The enclosed front can reduce direct fan and drive noise, but it also makes the system’s heat load, fan curves and component efficiency important.

What Antec lists
The VSK4000B-U3 includes a 120 mm rear exhaust fan and lists a 120 mm front intake as optional. Its published specifications do not describe acoustic panels or a noise target. Plan for additional intake airflow if the system contains a high-power CPU or GPU, and verify which fans are actually supplied with the particular retail package.
Do owner reports settle the question?
No. In the title-matching AnandTech discussion, the original poster refers to prior customer builds using an Antec VSK3000B, not the VSK4000B. A respondent describes a quiet, cool Pop Air build; Pop Air has a mesh front and is a different model from the closed-front Pop Silent. Those anecdotes cannot establish Pop Silent or VSK4000B noise and thermal performance, and no controlled head-to-head measurements for the two exact cases are established here.

Physical fit and platform support
- Both cases list ATX, micro-ATX and Mini-ITX motherboard support.
- The Antec is the smaller listed chassis at 440 × 185 × 412 mm, while the Pop Silent is 473.5 × 215 × 454 mm. Check desk depth, rear clearance and side-panel access, not just the footprint.
- Count motherboard headers, front-panel connectors and GPU power-cable clearance before finalizing a build.
Useful options and variant checks
Fractal says front USB-C can be added with a separately available Pop upgrade kit. It also documents vertical GPU mounting with the Flex B-20. These are optional features; check regional availability and compatibility with the exact Pop variant, motherboard and graphics card.
For the Antec, identify the complete model suffix (including “-U3” where applicable) and revision from the seller or manual. Do not apply the U3 bay count or clearance numbers automatically to every product advertised as VSK4000B.
Best Value
- Sleek dual-chamber design with a panoramic view into its clean, decluttered interior
- Includes four reverse-blade fans and ventilated panels for out-of-the-box airflow
- Supports further cooling with space for top-mounted radiators up to 360 mm
- Designed for gaming with support for graphics cards up to 412 mm in length
- Tool-free access with easily removable panels including a glass side and front
A practical buying checklist
- Measure both optical drives, including front bezels and rear cable clearance.
- Measure the graphics card and record whether the Antec HDD bracket must remain installed.
- Check CPU-cooler height, PSU length and modular-cable bend space; the Antec page captured here does not state the first two limits.
- Confirm motherboard format, expansion-slot needs and front USB/header compatibility.
- Decide whether the Pop Silent’s closed, dampened design matches the system’s expected heat output and fan curve.
- Verify the exact side-panel type, included fans, suffix and revision in the seller’s documentation before ordering.
Recommendation
Choose the Pop Silent when lower perceived noise, generous GPU clearance and clearly documented cooler/PSU limits matter most. Choose the VSK4000B-U3 when you specifically need a third external 5.25-inch bay, prefer its smaller dimensions, and your graphics card fits the appropriate 260 mm or 340 mm limit. Neither choice should be made from an owner anecdote about a different model; component measurements and the exact revision are decisive.
