Four company notices listed by Michigan’s Labor and Economic Opportunity department account for 603 planned job impacts associated with September 2026: Trystar, Fifth Third Bank, SK Siltron CSS, and Compass Group USA/Morrison Healthcare. The total comes from the worker counts in the state’s public listing; it is not a count of confirmed separations completed during September.

Which Michigan companies announced layoffs in September?

Michigan LEO’s public WARN listing gives these counts, dates, locations, action types, and reasons. The figures are announced or listed impacts, not verified final separations.

A separate Kroger closure notice on the same listing shows 68 jobs and a September 30, 2026 date. It is a fifth notice, so it is not included in the four-company total.

Are these layoffs confirmed?

No. A WARN notice reports planned employment losses; Michigan’s listing does not establish how many workers ultimately separated. Trystar’s listed schedule runs from September 4 through December 31, 2026, so its 71 impacts are not necessarily all September separations.

The state listing presents notices in an accessible template rather than reproducing employers’ original filings. Michigan LEO says an unlisted notice may be requested through a Freedom of Information Act request. The public listing includes this disclaimer and guidance.

What does a Michigan WARN notice mean?

Michigan LEO says the federal WARN Act generally requires 60 days’ advance notice for covered plant closings and mass layoffs. The state’s explainer summarizes coverage criteria as follows:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A facility closure that causes an employment loss for 50 or more workers within a 30-day period.
  • A layoff of 500 or more workers, or 50–499 workers if they make up at least 33% of the employer’s workforce.
  • Aggregation of employment losses over a 90-day period when the closure or mass layoff reaches the applicable threshold.

However, the appearance of a notice on Michigan’s portal does not by itself prove that the event meets WARN’s coverage thresholds. The state says employers can also submit notices below those criteria, marked as sub-WARN. See Michigan LEO’s WARN Act summary.

What the listing does—and does not—establish

The state listing gives specific reasons for two of the four notices: Trystar cited a transfer of operations, and Compass Group/Morrison Healthcare cited a loss of contract. It reports no reason for the Fifth Third Bank or SK Siltron CSS notices. The listed headcounts alone do not establish each employer’s workforce share, the local labor-market effect, or the final number of workers who lose jobs.
