Fortnite’s Item Shop is a place to buy cosmetics; quests and other eligible in-game offers are ways to earn certain items without buying them. A quest reward is not automatically available in the shop, and a shop cosmetic is not free unless Epic identifies a specific free offer. Check the live Quests area and official Fortnite announcements for current rewards, requirements, and deadlines.
How Item Shop cosmetics differ from quest rewards
| What to compare | Item Shop | Quest rewards |
|---|---|---|
| How you get an item | Purchase an offered item through the shop. Epic describes the shop as a place to discover and purchase cosmetics, emotes, and other in-game items. Fortnite Item Shop | Complete a listed quest or its stated requirements to claim the reward. Epic’s quest instructions |
| Cost | Items offered there are purchases; don’t assume a cosmetic is free just because it appears in the shop. | Some quest rewards can be earned without a purchase, but requirements and eligibility depend on the quest and any associated reward track. |
| Where to check | Look in the in-game Item Shop or the official web shop for current offers. | Open Quests from the lobby, then select the relevant Fortnite experience and review its task and reward details. |
| How long it is available | Shop inventory changes, so confirm whether the item is currently offered. | Quest windows may be limited. Epic says many free items are released for a particular season and are available only during that season. Epic’s free-items guidance |
| Will it return? | Check the shop rather than assuming a particular item will return. | A quest reward is not guaranteed to become a shop purchase later; any return depends on the specific offer. |
Where free cosmetics can come from
Epic lists in-game challenges, free Battle Pass content, and account security with two-factor authentication (2FA) among possible ways to get free items. These are routes to check, not a promise that a particular cosmetic or 2FA reward is available now. Confirm the offer’s requirements and that it is still active in Epic’s official information.

Quests may award cosmetics, but they can also award XP or levels. Epic notes that different Fortnite experiences have their own quests, including Rocket Racing, LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, LEGO Fortnite Brick Life, and Fortnite Festival. Epic’s quest instructions

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to find and claim quest rewards
- From the Fortnite lobby, open Quests.
- Select the experience whose quests you want to check.
- Read the task, reward, eligibility details, and any time limit shown for that quest or reward track.
- Play the experience and complete the listed requirements. Check the quest details afterward for whether the reward has been claimed or needs another action.
For an item you are considering buying, check the official Item Shop instead. A cosmetic’s appearance as a quest reward does not establish that it is for sale, or that it will later return to the shop.

Limited-time rewards and possible returns
Many free cosmetics are tied to a season or event. Epic says Player Support cannot grant missed seasonal free items simply on request, so check deadlines before investing time in a quest track. Epic’s free-items guidance
Past event announcements show why availability should be judged offer by offer. In its May 2, 2023 Find the Force announcement, Epic said that event’s free and Premium Reward Track items were not exclusive and might later become Item Shop purchases. That statement concerned that event; it is not a general promise that quest cosmetics will return.

Likewise, Epic’s August 30, 2022 Play Your Way announcement described a time-limited quest event with specified reward thresholds and a September 6, 2022, 8 AM ET end time. Those dates and conditions applied to that historical event, not to current quests.
Check current offers safely
The available official guidance establishes the general ways players may get free items, but it does not establish which cosmetics, quest requirements, or deadlines are live on October 4, 2026. Use the in-game Quests area and Epic’s official Fortnite announcements for current details; do not rely on an old event page to infer today’s availability.

Epic warns players about suspicious external offers for free Epic products or V-Bucks and says legitimate offers appear on official Epic Games properties and social channels. Treat third-party promises, unofficial screenshots, and requests to follow ticket instructions as unverified unless Epic confirms the offer through its official channels. Epic’s free-items guidance
