FontGet is an open-source command-line font manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its documented commands let you search for fonts, install or remove them, list installed fonts, and export or import a manifest to recreate a font setup on another computer. The examples below are from the project README; check the official FontGet repository for current installation steps and command syntax before using them.
What FontGet does
FontGet provides terminal-based discovery and management of fonts. The project describes its executable as a single binary with no external dependencies, with amd64 and arm64 binaries; these are project claims, not independent compatibility test results.
The README currently names six integrated font sources:
- Google Fonts
- Nerd Fonts
- The League of Moveable Type
- FontSource
- FontShare
- Font Squirrel
This is the project’s stated source list, not a guarantee that every font or upstream catalog item will always be available.

Install FontGet
The README documents shell scripts and package-manager routes, but package availability and release instructions can change. Confirm the current instructions in the project repository before installing. The commands below are documented examples, not independently tested here.
- macOS and Linux: the README provides
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Graphixa/FontGet/main/scripts/install.sh | sh. - Windows: the README provides
irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Graphixa/FontGet/main/scripts/install.ps1 | iexfor PowerShell. - Package managers: the README also lists WinGet and Scoop for Windows, Homebrew for macOS, and the Arch User Repository for Arch Linux. It labels Chocolatey as “coming soon,” rather than a currently available route.
These installation routes are recorded in the README; they do not establish the live status of a particular package-manager listing.

Search for and install fonts
Use search to find a font, then install it with the source-qualified ID shown by the project. The README documents these examples:
fontget search "roboto"
fontget add "google.roboto"
fontget add "google.roboto" "google.open-sans"The source prefix is part of the example IDs: google.roboto identifies the Google source. Use the ID returned or specified by FontGet rather than assuming a font name alone is sufficient.

List and remove installed fonts
The README’s examples use list to view installed fonts and optionally filter the results, and remove to remove a font:
fontget list
fontget list "sans"

Recreate a font setup on another computer
For a repeatable setup, the README documents exporting a manifest and importing it later:
fontget export --output fonts.json
fontget import fonts.jsonKeep the exported fonts.json file somewhere accessible to the new computer, then import it there using the documented command. The project also shows a user-scope ZIP backup:

fontget backup --scope userThe maintainer describes reinstalling fonts after a computer reinstall or move as the original motivation for FontGet. The README also describes importing or scripting font reloads, deploying fonts across workplace machines, and switching fonts while customizing Windows and Linux systems. These are stated use cases, not a guarantee of a particular organization’s deployment requirements.
Other commands and Windows’ separate WinGet font source
In addition to search, add, remove, list, export, import, and backup, the project lists info, sources, config, version, update, and completion. Check fontget help or the repository’s documentation for version-specific options.
Windows users may also encounter Microsoft WinGet’s winget-font source. Microsoft documents it as a default WinGet source that is explicit by default: commands do not include it unless you specify --source winget-font or -s winget-font. This is separate Windows package-manager context; it does not mean FontGet uses WinGet’s font catalog. See Microsoft’s WinGet source documentation.
