If Fluxguard keeps capturing the login screen instead of the page behind it, first identify whether the site uses a regular login form or HTTP basic authentication. For a form, check the username, password, and submit selectors, allow enough time after submission, then run a fresh crawl and inspect its screenshot. Also verify that the login page comes before protected pages in the session and that the site is not blocking Fluxguard’s crawler. Test only accounts and sites you own or are authorized to access.
1. Identify which kind of login the site uses
Fluxguard handles a standard web form differently from HTTP basic authentication. Use the instructions for the authentication type you actually see; configuring form actions will not solve a basic-auth prompt, or vice versa. Fluxguard’s password-protected page tutorial explains both.
- Standard web form: The page has fields for a username or email and password, plus a sign-in button. Configure browser actions for the fields and submit control.
- HTTP basic authentication: The browser or page presents an authentication prompt rather than an ordinary site form. Enter the credentials in Session Settings under the Crawl tab.
2. Reconfigure a standard form login
- Add the login URL to the Fluxguard session and run an initial manual crawl. Fluxguard’s tutorial recommends capturing the page before configuring selectors so you can choose the controls from the captured page.
- Open the login page in Page View and add actions for the username field, password field, and form submission. Selectors identify elements in the page DOM; examples include
#elementand.element. - Keep selectors short and specific. Prefer a selector that uniquely identifies the intended field or button. Fluxguard cautions that long selectors built from layout or class hierarchies can break when a site changes its structure.
- Save the actions, return to Session View, and start another crawl. Open the new capture and check its screenshot. A crawl that completes is not proof that login succeeded: confirm the capture shows the authenticated destination you meant to monitor.

If the submit action runs but the next capture is still the login page, the protected page may not have finished loading before Fluxguard captures it. Increase the post-submit wait, save, and run another crawl. Fluxguard gives 6000 milliseconds (6 seconds) as an example for a slow form; it is not a universal setting. Choose a delay that fits the target site, then verify the resulting capture. Fluxguard’s tutorial index also lists a “Wait Longer Before Capturing” guide for slow or complex sites.

4. Put login before protected pages in the session
Fluxguard says cookies and local storage persist between pages within one session. Arrange the session so the login step happens before destinations that require the resulting session state. If you need to monitor both the login page itself and a page reached after signing in, Fluxguard suggests adding the login page twice and placing the entries in the appropriate order. 5. Check whether the crawler is blocked
If Fluxguard cannot reach the site, or the crawl is stopped before useful page actions occur, an edge protection system or other access control may be blocking the crawler. Fluxguard’s tutorial index links to guidance for whitelisting its crawlers in edge protection systems. Follow that current guide or ask the site administrator to review access; do not guess at allowlist identifiers.

The information available here does not establish whether a particular monitored site’s MFA, CAPTCHA, anti-bot challenge, or expired credentials can be handled reliably. Those cases depend on the target site and should be checked with Fluxguard support and the site administrator rather than assumed to work.
6. Distinguish a successful capture from a change-detection issue
If the capture visibly contains the authenticated page but Fluxguard has not reported a change you expected, investigate detection settings rather than repeating login setup first. Fluxguard says extracted text is the default primary change-detection strategy; a detected text change triggers a new version, after which other comparisons run. Its FAQ also lists rendered DOM, visual, and network monitoring and says the primary strategy can be adjusted. Review the saved capture history and selected primary strategy in the Fluxguard FAQ.

7. Check whether only the comparison viewer looks wrong
A mismatch in the side-by-side or version viewer does not necessarily mean authentication failed. Fluxguard says its viewer displays an approximation in an iframe after removing JavaScript and some resources, so areas of a page can render differently there. Compare the captured artifacts with the live page before treating a display discrepancy as a failed login.
