Flow Launcher lets you search for and open apps and files on Windows. To get started, install it from the official download page or a package manager, open it with Alt+Space, then use Settings or the Plugin Manager to add extensions and adjust how you launch it.
Choose how to install Flow Launcher
The official site lists support for Windows 10 and later and, as of September 20, 2026, identifies version 2.1.4 as the current release. Release details can change, so check the official Flow Launcher site before installing.

The package-manager commands are documented in the official project repository. Use one installation route, and follow its prompts or package-manager output to finish setup.
Open the search window and settings
Press Alt+Space to open Flow Launcher’s search window; this is the documented default shortcut and can be changed. Type an app or file name to search, then navigate the results and execute the one you want. Press Ctrl+I to open Settings.

The repository documents additional keyboard actions for navigating results, executing a result, opening context menus, and reloading plugin data. Check its current hotkey documentation for the complete list and any changes.
Find and install plugins
Use Settings or the Plugin Manager
- Open Settings with Ctrl+I, then open the Plugin Store to browse available extensions.
- Select a plugin and review its description and release details before installing it.
- Alternatively, open the search window and use the Plugin Manager command pattern:
pm installfollowed by the plugin name. The documented management pattern also includespm uninstallandpm updatefollowed by a plugin name.
The official plugin catalog lists community extensions with details such as author, type, category, and version or release information on individual listings. Plugins are independently maintained, so use each listing’s description and release details to judge whether it suits your needs.

Example: launch with the Windows key
If you want a Windows-key trigger, the catalog lists the optional Win Hotkey plugin. Its listing identifies version 4.0.0 and a May 1, 2024 release date, and gives this install command: pm install Win Hotkey by Amin Salah. Check the current Win Hotkey listing for compatibility before installing. This extension is one option, not a requirement for using Flow Launcher.

Choose a launch shortcut
Start with the default Alt+Space binding if it works for you. If you prefer another key, change the shortcut in Flow Launcher’s settings. If your preferred trigger is the Windows key, consider the Win Hotkey plugin only after checking its current compatibility. The official listing does not establish that the plugin is necessary or preferable for every user.
