If the nodes belong together, wrap them in an <ng-container ngProjectAs="[slot-selector]">. If they should be projected separately, put each in a control-flow block with a single projectable root. See Angular’s NG8011 error guide.
Why NG8011 happens
Angular matches projected content against the receiving component’s <ng-content select="…"> placeholders. The placeholder is a compile-time projection marker, not a runtime DOM element. The problem arises when a control-flow block such as @if has multiple root nodes: Angular cannot use that block as a single projectable unit and may place a node in the default slot rather than its named slot.
For example, a card component might declare a title slot and a default slot:

</app-card>Angular’s control-flow blocks emulate the projection behavior of structural directives such as *ngIf and *ngFor, but that behavior works only when the block has one root node. A root can be text as well as an element. Angular notes that whitespace also counts when the containing component sets preserveWhitespaces: true.
Choose a fix based on how the content should project
Keep the grouped content together in one named slot
Wrap the group in an <ng-container> and give that container a static ngProjectAs value matching the receiver’s slot selector:

Project each node independently
If the title and subtitle do not need to travel as one group, give each block a single root:

</app-card>Use the same condition when both nodes must appear together; change the conditions only if their visibility is meant to differ. Angular demonstrates this split-block repair in its NG8011 guide.
Check for text roots
If the template appears to contain only one element, inspect the block for stray text beside it. Angular explicitly counts text as a root node. Whitespace can count as well when preserveWhitespaces: true is set. Remove or restructure the extra root, or use one of the two repairs above.

Do not put the receiving slot behind control flow
A separate but related mistake is conditionally including the receiver’s placeholder:

}Angular advises against wrapping <ng-content> in @if, @for, or @switch: projected DOM content is instantiated even when its placeholder is hidden. If the receiving component needs to conditionally render content, follow Angular’s content-projection guidance and use template fragments instead.

Angular version and diagnostic configuration
Built-in control flow is available from Angular v17. For an existing project, Angular provides the migration schematic ng generate @angular/core:control-flow; its migration documentation also lists --path and --format options. These built-in blocks do not require importing CommonModule.
An Angular issue report involving Angular 17.1.0 and CLI 17.1.1 mentions suppressing the check with extendedDiagnostics.checks.controlFlowPreventingContentProjection = "suppress". That report is a dated example, not a statement about every current Angular version. Suppression changes whether the diagnostic is reported; it does not restructure the template or apply either projection fix. See Angular issue #54077.
