If YouTube isn’t working on your LG Smart TV, first check whether other apps can connect to the internet. If they can, focus on the YouTube app: restart the TV, check for updates, then reinstall YouTube if needed. If several apps fail, or YouTube still fails after reinstalling, test the TV on a different network before deciding whether the problem is with your home internet or the TV.
First, work out whether the problem is YouTube or the TV’s connection
Open another streaming app on the TV, or use the TV’s internet connection test if available. If other apps also fail to load, the issue is more likely to involve the TV’s connection or home network than YouTube alone. LG notes that unstable network connections can cause apps to fail to load (LG app troubleshooting).
If other apps work normally, treat the problem as specific to YouTube and try the app-focused steps below. The exact menus and controls vary by LG TV model and webOS version.

- Restart the TV. Turn it off, unplug it from power briefly, reconnect it, and open YouTube again. YouTube recommends power cycling a TV or streaming device when troubleshooting video errors (YouTube video troubleshooting).
- Check for YouTube and TV software updates. Use the TV’s available app and software update controls; their locations differ across webOS versions. YouTube says many smart TVs update apps automatically, but that does not guarantee every LG model updates YouTube in the same way.
- Update or reinstall YouTube if other apps work. LG recommends updating an app that has a problem and deleting and reinstalling it if the issue continues. The app-management controls depend on the TV interface; consult LG’s instructions for installing and deleting apps.
After reinstalling, launch YouTube and check whether the same error remains. If the app still fails, use the network test below to distinguish a home-network problem from a TV problem.

Use a different network to isolate the cause
Connect the TV to a phone hotspot temporarily and try YouTube. This test does not prove which component has failed, but it is a useful way to separate the home connection from the TV and app.
- YouTube works on the hotspot: LG says the TV is working normally; investigate the home Wi-Fi router or internet service instead.
- YouTube still fails on the hotspot: The problem may be with the TV or its software, and LG says the TV may need inspection.
LG gives this guidance in its app loading and hotspot troubleshooting instructions. Disconnect from the hotspot when the test is finished so the TV returns to your usual network.

If YouTube is missing from your LG TV
Search for YouTube in the LG Content Store, the installation route YouTube directs LG TV owners to use (YouTube app installation help). If it does not appear or cannot be installed, availability can depend on the TV model and region. LG also identifies several settings and conditions that can affect app installation:

- Sign in to an LG account if the TV requires one for app downloads.
- Check that the TV’s LG Services Country setting matches your actual country.
- Make sure there is enough available storage.
- Accept any required user agreements.
LG’s app installation guidance covers these requirements; labels and steps may differ by model.

When to reset the TV or contact support
Contact support before resetting if the hotspot test points to the TV
If YouTube continues to fail across networks after restarting, updating, and reinstalling, contact LG support or the app provider. A TV that also struggles with other apps or services may need LG’s attention; a failure isolated to YouTube may be better directed to YouTube support.
Reserve a factory reset for last
A factory reset restores the TV’s settings to their out-of-box state, so you may need to set up the TV and sign in again afterward. LG’s reset instructions vary by webOS generation; use the page for your TV rather than assuming one menu path applies to every model (LG TV reset instructions).

Make sure you mean YouTube, not YouTube TV
The standard YouTube app and the separate YouTube TV service are different. If you mean YouTube TV, its troubleshooting guidance includes location settings as well as restarting devices and routers, updating, and reinstalling that app (YouTube TV streaming troubleshooting). Those service-specific location instructions do not apply to ordinary YouTube playback.
If the LG app remains unavailable
If your model or region does not offer the built-in app, or the TV app remains unusable after troubleshooting, a separate streaming device is another way to access YouTube. YouTube lists Fire TV among platforms where its app can be downloaded (YouTube app installation help); check device compatibility and availability for your location before choosing one.
