If your Samsung tablet cannot connect to a Windows PC, first confirm which feature you mean: Microsoft Remote Desktop connects the tablet to a Windows desktop, while Samsung DeX for PC connects the tablet to a computer to show a DeX interface. They use different setup steps, so start with the path that matches your goal.
First, identify the connection you are trying to make
Use Microsoft Remote Desktop when you want to control a Windows PC from your tablet. The PC is the remote host; the tablet runs Microsoft’s Android client. Use Samsung DeX for PC when you want to connect the Galaxy device to a computer and use a DeX experience on that computer. A DeX connection problem is not fixed by changing Windows Remote Desktop settings, or vice versa.
Fix Microsoft Remote Desktop connection failures
1. Check that the Windows PC can act as a Remote Desktop host
Microsoft’s current host instructions require Windows Pro. On the PC, open Settings → System → About and check the Windows edition. If the PC does not meet that requirement, the Android app cannot make it an eligible host.
On an eligible PC, open Settings → System → Remote Desktop, turn on Remote Desktop, and confirm the prompt. Record the PC name shown there; the tablet needs the correct destination. See Microsoft’s Remote Desktop setup instructions.

2. Verify the destination and account in the Android client
In Microsoft’s Remote Desktop app from Google Play, add a Desktop connection. For the PC name, Microsoft’s Android client documentation accepts a computer name, an Internet domain name, or an IP address. Use the address that is correct for your network and enter credentials for an account permitted to access that PC. A mistyped PC name or an account without access can prevent sign-in even when the host is enabled.
If this is a work or school connection, do not guess gateway or feed details. An administrator may require a Remote Desktop gateway or provide access through a published resource; ask for the organization’s approved settings. 3. Resolve an expired-password message
If the app reports error 0xf07 or says the password associated with the user account has expired, update the password through the account’s normal process, then try again with the new password. Re-entering the expired password will not clear this specific error.
4. Adjust the display after a successful connection
If the connection opens but the desktop is too small, clipped, or rotated incorrectly, inspect the client’s display resolution and orientation settings. The Android client supports display settings per connection or globally. Changes apply to new connections, so disconnect and reconnect to apply them to an active session.

5. Check input settings when taps, mouse, or keyboard behave oddly
The Android client offers direct-touch and pointer mouse modes. If the keyboard produces unexpected input, inspect its scancode input option. A Bluetooth keyboard or mouse can make a long session easier to control, but it is an optional convenience—not a fix for a failed connection, an incorrect PC address, or an account problem.
6. Use a safe route for connections from outside the local network
For access from an external network, Microsoft’s documentation describes gateway use. Do not expose Remote Desktop directly to the public internet as a quick troubleshooting step. Follow your organization’s approved remote-access method, or ask an administrator about a properly configured gateway or VPN.

Fix Samsung DeX for PC connection problems
These checks apply only when connecting the Galaxy device to a computer for DeX, not when using the tablet as a Remote Desktop client.
- Wireless connection: Make sure the Galaxy device and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Wired connection: Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, then follow the prompts on the device.
- PC app: Check whether the DeX app needs an update.
- Managed or public PC: Security software or administrator restrictions may block the connection. Ask the PC administrator whether those controls apply.
- Still failing: Samsung advises submitting an error report through Samsung Members or collecting a DeX log. Follow Samsung’s DeX connection troubleshooting steps.
Samsung Knox describes DeX as an interface that extends a Samsung mobile device to PC peripherals. That is a different purpose from opening a Windows desktop session on the tablet.

Keep DeX and enterprise remote-support limits in perspective
Samsung Knox documentation says DeX for PC is no longer supported on devices running Android 15 / One UI 7 or later. It also says Knox Remote Support sessions are no longer supported in DeX mode on Android 16 / One UI 8 or later. These are specific DeX and enterprise-support conditions; they are not general restrictions on using an Android tablet as a Windows Remote Desktop client. Confirm the tablet’s OS version and the organization’s Knox configuration if your support workflow depends on DeX.
